With hundreds of miles of the Solway Coast threading along the south of this region, you’ll find plenty of spots for sandy stroll, picnics and outdoor activities.

On sunny days the sparkling stretches of golden sand become popular with people enjoying the fresh sea breezes, and many have good facilities to help you spend a full day at the shore.

If you’re near the town of Annan, stop off at Powfoot Beach and look out for birdlife. A few miles south of Dalbeattie is Sandyhills beach, a large stretch of shore perfect for sunbathing. Mossyard beach nearby Gatehouse of Fleet is a small sandy spot with rocks on the north side of Fleet Bay, and fine, golden sand can be enjoyed at Port Logan.
