Edinburgh & The Lothians leaves you spoilt for choice when it comes to golf, with an amazing selection of courses that allow you to make the most of the natural contours of the land while enjoying some testing holes at the same time

The city of Edinburgh has a good selection of quality courses with amazing views of the cityscape and surrounding hills. Braid Hills is a testing hill-top course from which you can see Edinburgh Castle, Arthur’s Seat and on to the Pentland Hills and the Firth of Forth. It was designed by three times Open champion Bob Ferguson and Peter McEwan, a 19th century clubmaker from Musselburgh. Founded in 1761, Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society on the outskirts of Edinburgh is the fourth oldest in the world. This attractive parkland course offers a challenging game and has been a Regional Qualifying Venue for the Open.

East Lothian is blessed with a wide array of stunning and historic golf courses. Muirfield, which was the venue for The Open Championship in 2013, is just one of the many great golf courses on 'Scotland's Golf Coast'. Gullane boasts three fantastic golf courses, Musselburgh has a long association with the game of golf and Archerfield Links Golf Club has two outstanding 18-hole courses: the Dirleton Links and the Fidra Links. The excellent links at Craigielaw Golf Club is home to the long established and internationally known Eric Grandison Golf School. For more information on playing in the area, check out some inspiring golf itineraries, and make savings with the East Lothian Golf Pass.

West Lothian also has a rich golfing heritage. Treat yourself to a stay at the luxurious Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club, and play the fantastic East and West courses. Further west you will find Linlithgow Golf Course, a championship standard parkland course which has stunning views over the Forth Estuary.

Midlothian has a wealth of golfing delights within easy reach of Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh. Just 6 miles to the southeast of the city is the mature parkland course at Broomieknowe Golf Course. This superb easy walking course sits on an elevated height and affords superb views of the surrounding countryside. Midlothian is also home to the well established and picturesque parkland course at Glencourse Golf Club, which has a number of challenging holes to keep you on your toes.

Wherever you choose to play, keep a look out for the Golfers Welcome scheme, which accredits accommodation providers that offer dedicated golf facilities like secure club storage, weather updates and details of local golf suppliers.
