Dumfries & Galloway is a natural choice for golfers, with the region's varied landscapes creating a range of exceptional courses, from championship to undiscovered gems. The region is one of the best places in Scotland to introduce children to the game, with a wide variety of courses well-suited to multi-generational play.

With more than 200 miles of coastline sweeping along the Solway, around Scotland’s most southerly point, before heading north towards Ayrshire, the coastal golf courses of Dumfries & Galloway are a real joy.

Championship links courses such as Southerness, Powfoot, Sandyhills and Brighouse Bay will put your golfing skills to the test.  Further west, Wigtownshire County, Portpatrick’s Dunskey Course and Stranraer Golf Club make the most of their coastal settings with panoramic sea views.

The lush, rolling countryside of Dumfries & Galloway makes parkland courses a pleasure to play.  Here you’ll find well-maintained fairways and greens, with rough that errs on the side of forgiving and beautifully sculpted landscapes offering scenic and satisfying rounds. Exceptional parkland 18 hole courses include Colvend, Dumfries & County, Dumfries & Galloway, Thornhill, Lochmaben, Lockerbie, Kirkcudbright and Newton Stewart.

For a truly distinctive Dumfries & Galloway experience, try the fabulous heathland challenge of Lagganmore in the west, or the mature moorland course at Moffat. St Medan, Scotland’s most southerly golf club, is a 9-hole course with 18 tees that makes impressive use of its coastal setting.

Solway Links near Dalbeattie prides itself on being a family friendly venue and is also home to Scotland’s first and only ‘Golf Cross’ course, where oval balls and goalposts replace round balls and holes. The courses at New Galloway and Gatehouse of Fleet are also great fun and will keep you on your toes.

Find out more about the region’s golf offering and three golf trails in the Dumfries & Galloway Golf guide. For great value golf, the Gateway to Golf Pass offers you the choice between a 3-round pass and a 6-round pass with access to 25 participating courses over five consecutive days.

When booking your accommodation remember to look out for the Golfers Welcome scheme, which accredits accommodation providers that offer dedicated golf facilities like secure club storage, weather updates and details of local golf suppliers.
