Let your imagination be stirred in the historic attractions of Dundee & Angus with tales of Pictish stones and legendary explorers.

Tour the restored textile factory Verdant Works and learn about Dundee's fascinating jute manufacturing past or explore the RRS Discovery, a legendary vessel that Captain Robert Falcon Scott chartered on his seminal expedition to Antartica. The ship was originally built in Dundee, as the city's shipyards had a long experience of constructuing ships strong enough to sail through the Arctic pack ice.

Dundee's second ship sits nearby at the waterfront, berthed in Victoria Dock. The amazingly well preserved HM Frigate Unicorn is the oldest British-built warship still afloat today.

Walk among the red sandstone ruins of Arbroath Abbey where the Declaration of Arbroath was signed. Learn about this document, in which Scottish nobles swore their independence from England, in the state-of-the-art visitor centre.

At Pictavia you can discover the fascinating story of the Picts, an ancient warrior tribe who inhabited much of the north of Scotland in the first millennium AD.

Visit the beautiful Georgian building, the House of Dun, just 3 miles south of Montrose. This elegant home has a spectacular setting and inside you can see a model theatre display, and some of the finest paintings in the National Trust for Scotland collection.

You can also uncover treasures like the Aberlemno sculptured stones around the area. These richly decorated sculptures record hunting and battle scenes from as far back as the seventh and eighth centuries.
