    High Mains (sleeps 6) is a recently refurbished house overlooking the river on a quiet lane at the edge of the west coast seaside village of Ballantrae in South Ayrshire.

    High Mains Cottage is situated along the River Stinchar sleeps six people, it has beautifully modernised and furnished with great flair to make a perfect base for your Scottish holiday and we look forward to welcoming you to Ballantrae, our friendly Ayrshire village. 

    Situated along a quiet country lane, within quarter of a mile from the sea, backed by farm land and looking South over the River Stinchar to the surrounding South Ayrshire countryside and Galloway Hills beyond. With marked river, woodland, seaside and farm walks direct from the door, the properties are all situated just off the Ayrshire Coastal Path, www.ayrshirecoastalpath.org -Scotland’s long distance walking route along one of the finest panoramic coastlines in the British Isles. The coastline is crowned with a superb backdrop of the ever-changing profile of Ailsa Craig and the mountains of Arran across the Firth of Clyde. The area is steeped in history and teeming with wildlife, including red squirrels, roe deer, otters and seals and is a haven for bird watchers on the moors and estuary.

    High Mains Cottage is surrounded by farmland and commanding panoramic views over the surrounding countryside and the River Stinchar, this charming traditional cottage has been tastefully modernised throughout. It has a sunny sheltered position facing south, is set back from a quiet lane and stands alone. High Mains Cottage has its own large garden and is perfectly placed for exploring the rugged beauty of the Ayrshire coast. The cottage is about 200 years old, whitewashed with a traditional slate roof and has been beautifully restored. There is a colourful cottage garden, with garden furniture and a barbecue.

    There is a large attractive country kitchen, which is well equipped for keen cooks, and the sitting room has a cosy atmosphere with wood-burning stove.  All three bedrooms are well decorated and there is both a bath and shower room

    Ground Floor: Large utility room with plenty of room for wellies, coats, golf clubs and fishing rods. Shower room. Large kitchen/dining room. Sitting room with wood-burning stove. Super-king double bedroom. Bathroom with separate shower.

    First Floor: Two twin rooms.

    Utilities: TV, Freeview, DVD player, wifi, dishwasher, fridge freezer, fan oven, microwave, gas hob, washing machine, tumble dryer, garden furniture, barbecue, wood-burning stove (logs provided), central heating, bed linen, towels.

    Road Directions

    From Glasgow and the North follow the M77 then A77 to Ballantrae.

    From Carlisle and the South turn off  the M74 at Gretna onto the A75 towards Stranraer, just before Stranraer turn right onto the A77 (follow the ferry signs) and carry on for 17 miles until you reach Ballantrae.

    Once in Ballantrae, to find Castlehill (KA26 0NJ)

    Take the B7044 signed Colmonell which runs inland alongside the river on its North bank and Castlehill is the third house on the left along this lane.
