Off-the-beaten-track Westcoast – Ardnamurchan, Moidart, Sunart, Morvern & ArdgourCastle Tioram:
Off-the-beaten-track Westcoast – Ardnamurchan & Castle Tioram
via Glencoe & Glenfinnan to the 5 western peninsulas of Morvern, Sunart, Moidart, Ardgour & Ardnamurchan
ItineraryTravelling to some of Scotland’s least traveled, but most spectacular roads through the Moidart, Sunart, Morven & Ardnamurchan peninsulas.Starting in Stirling we offer multiple pick ups and are heading west through the Loch Lomond and Trossachs nationalpark, we travel through Rannoch Moor and have a photostop in stunning Glencoe.
There is the option of taking the scenic Corran ferry across Loch Linnhe or alternatively have a stop at Inverlochy castle before visiting Glenfinnan (viewpoint of beautiful Loch Shiel, the Bonny Prince Charles statue and the railway bridge also used on the West Highland railway line by the Jacobite steamtrain or Hogwarth’s express in the Harry Potter film).
We then enter a remote, but absolutely stunning region with 4 unique peninsulas and you are never far from the sea when you drive through stunning places such as Strontian, Acharacle, Kentra, Ardtoe beach through the 4 peninsulas of Morvern, Sunart, Moidart & Ardnamurchan past lots of bens, lochs, glens and along some sealochs/fjords to the the romantic tidal castle of Tioram and eventually to Ardnamurchan point, Scotland’s most westerly point of the mainland.
Subject to visibility we might get an amazing view across the seas over to the Isle of Mull, Coll, Tiree, the small isles (Rhum, Muck, Eigg and Canna) and the Cuillins of Skye in the distance.
At Ardnamurchan point there is usually also a good chance to spot marine wildlife.
Depending on the group’s preferences and our departure time/time management, we might on one route short cut via the Kilchoan-Tobermory/Mull/Craignure-Oban ferry link ( a few pounds extra per footpassenger with Caledonian MacBrayne) or alternative via the Corran ferry free for footpassengers), but this will make an already very long day even longer, but if its glorious day with long day light hours and the group requests this, subject to ferry space that is an option.
Alternative return routes are past Fort William through Spean bridge east towards the Cairngorm nationalpark and Dalwhinnie and then return south through Highland Perthshire.
