North Shetland Isles Fishing Trip
The North isles include some fantastic fishing grounds and what better way to explore the coastline and catch your own supper than on board a 125-year-old fishing boat with the wind in your sails!
Depart: Lerwick on Friday 8 May at 07:45, bus transfer to Yell via ferry (08:45) Boarding in Yell at 09:30
Disembark in Lerwick on Monday 11 May at 17:00
You will be transferred to Yell from Lerwick by bus, to make the most of your time aboard in Shetland’s beautiful northern isles.
Boarding in Mid Yell on Friday morning, the Skipper will prepare a route to sail around the coastlines of Yell, Unst, and Fetlar, as far as weather and tides permit, stopping to anchor and enjoy a spot of fishing as you go.
Swan no longer uses nets or long lines so you will need to bring your own angling equipment, suitable for sea angling. You can catch cod, haddock, pollack, ling, whiting, mackeral, herring and halibut among other less common species in this area.
After a good day’s fishing, the crew will settle down to cook their catch and enjoy evenings of storytelling and socialising either in the saloon or perhaps ashore within the small communities of the north isles.
A voyage on Swan is very much a hands-on experience - you are part of her crew, and work as a team to make your voyage happen. As well as the fishing you will be expected to take part in sailing the boat, and all domestic chores and watches. All tasks are shared and everyone joins in, from the most to the least experienced. The Swan Trust
When you come aboard the Swan you are embarking on a 'hands on' adventure. Play an active role in sailing and working the ship, build friendships with your crew mates, develop new skills and take in stunning scenery. Sailing trips range from a half day to 14 days and no previous sailing experience is required. Private charter also available by request.
