Glencoe

Glencoe and the Highlands of Scotland in a Day

Travelling in the luxury of our Land Rover Discovery 4, you leave the city behind and head through beautiful countryside and into the breath-taking highlands of Scotland. See romantic loch's and famous castles on this wonderful day tour.

Leave the city behind and journey through spectacular scenery on your way to Glencoe and the highlands. Your first stop will be The Helix Park, home of the famous Kelpies. Get up close to really appreciate these fabulous 30-meter high horses head sculptures, the largest in the world, the work of artist Andy Scott and a monument to horse powered heritage across Scotland. The Kelpies name reflects the mythological transforming beasts possessing the strength and endurance of ten horses; a quality that is analogous with the transformational shape of our landscapes, endurance of our inland waterways and the strength of our communities.

Next you explore the wonderful medieval Doune Castle. Built in the 14th century, Doune Castle boasts a striking 100ft high gatehouse and one of the best preserved great halls in Scotland. You may know it as Winterfell or Castle Leoch as it has been a setting in many TV shows and movies.

Only a short drive to the village of Callander, known as the gateway to the highlands, we will stop for a stroll and perhaps coffee and cake in one of the many tearooms. This pretty town lies immediately south of the Highland Boundary Fault which is historically a meeting point between the Highlands and the Lowlands.

After a photo opportunity with some hairy Highland Cows, we will head into the highlands and glens of Scotland. Glen Etive is such a pretty glen to explore. Made famous in James Bond and Brave Heart, you will see why it is often a movie location.

Known as the weeping glen, Glencoe is simply stunning. You will have the opportunity to have a wee wander and just breath in the beauty of the place whilst learning of its bloody history.

Relax on your journey back to Edinburgh after a superb day in the highlands of Scotland.
