Golf - West Coast Wonders
Scotland is undoubtedly the home of golf and the West of Scotland plays it part in offering you some of the best links golf courses around as well as some stunning inland courses. There are over 100 courses including 5 rated in the UK top 100.
It is said that golf, or 'gowf' as it was known then in these parts, has been played in the West of Scotland since the 12th Century and Mary Queen of Scots is reputed to have played the game here in the 16th Century.
With its long stretches of rocky coastline and sandy beaches, the region is famed for courses such as Turnberry, Royal Troon and Prestwick but inland can be found equally challenging gems such as Loch Lomond, The Carrick and Ranfurly Castle. Even on the many islands there are some great courses to be found like Shiskine on Arran and The Machrie on Islay.
