We all know that 2014 is going to be a huge year for Glasgow, with the XX Commonwealth Games, the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards and Homecoming Scotland 2014 events like the on-going Celtic Connections and the Glasgow International Comedy Festival in March/April.
Radio 1’s Big Weekend is another unmissable event taking place this year in Scotland’s biggest city.
Next Monday, 50,000 tickets will be given away in pairs on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets will be available online from the Radio 1 website. There will also be a phone number in use from 8am, 0844 858 9071 (calls cost 6p a minute plus standard network charges).
You can find full information on tickets on the Radio 1 Big Weekend website.
This isn’t just any old concert, with a few big acts headlining. Radio 1’s Big Weekend always brings the best artists around, from all over the world, to one venue for one weekend only. Heard of Calvin Harris? Chase & Status? Biffy Clyro? Ellie Goulding? Bruno Mars? Olly Murs? Macklemore & Ryan Lewis? Well they were all there last year in Northern Ireland.
Having only been held once before in Scotland (in Dundee in 2006), the station’s flagship event is set to be held at Glasgow Green on 24 – 25 May and with Pharrell Williams, The 1975, Paolo Nutini and Rita Ora confirmed already, it’s shaping up to be bigger and better than ever before.
There will also be a massive party held at Glasgow’s George Square on Friday 23 May with Radio 1 DJs, Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Zane Lowe and Danny Howard. Tickets for this event are available from 7.45pm on Friday 28 March.
