Over the weekend one of the world’s premier rugby sevens tournaments took place amidst a stunning backdrop in the Scottish Borders. Yes we’re talking about the historic Melrose Sevens – this year was the 123rd edition (yes you read that correctly) of the famous tournament to take place and it didn’t disappoint!
As the name suggests, the event takes place in the Borders town of Melrose in April each year. The tournament attracts some of the best seven-a-side rugby teams from around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong and South Africa who compete against the best teams from around Scotland.
Our colleague Liam was in attendance and took some brilliant shots from the day, where everyone looked to be enjoying the entertaining rugby on offer. A bonus of any sevens tournament is the carnival atmosphere on display, including some creative costumes worn by those in attendance that you’ll see below:
At the end of the day there can only be one winner and the 2013 title was won by Saracens from England who saw off French side Clermont 24-22 in a thrilling final which added to the title they won in 2012.
