When is the best time to book accommodation?

Scotland is a popular year‑round destination, but the summer months, June to August, are especially busy. To make the most of your trip, we recommend booking your accommodation in advance. Securing your stay early means you’ll have the best choice of places and price options.

What's the price of accommodation in Scotland?

This can vary depending on the type of accommodation you’re staying at and the location. Based on hotel comparison websites, hotels generally ranging from £140 per night with 4-star options costing approximately £120 and 5-star around £290 and above. For budget-friendly options including B&Bs and guesthouses, expect to pay £100 - £150 per night. Self-catering accommodation can typically range from £400 - £1,500 depending on the amenities available, while short break nightly rates often start from around £100 - £150.

Please remember that pricing can vary throughout the year. Off‑peak season (November–March) often offers excellent value, with many places providing lower rates. Mid‑week breaks (Sunday–Thursday) can also be a great way to enjoy Scotland for less, with quieter attractions and more availability.

During the summer months, prices naturally rise due to higher demand, but you can still secure great value by booking early and checking directly with accommodation providers for the best rates.

Is dog-friendly accommodation common in Scotland?

Yes. Across Scotland, many hotels, self-catering cottages and caravan parks catering for your beloved pooch with lots of pet-friendly amenities. Expect welcome kits filled with toys and biscuits to dog beds and water bowls. Depending on where you stay, a small fee may be applied, but your pet can enjoy the same home comforts as you while on holiday.

What accommodation is best for a romantic break?

If you’re looking to swoon your partner with an extravagant romantic stay without any distractions, there are lots of options to choose from. Including hot tub breaks in a secluded forest location, relaxing spa hotel stays to cosy cottages perfect for hosting candle-lit dinners with floor to ceiling window views.

Can I stay in a castle?

Yes, you can live the ultimate fairytale dream of staying in a Scottish castle. Inside you’ll find unique period-styled bedrooms with four-poster beds, roaring fireplaces and grand dining rooms for big banquet meals. To enhance your stay, get stuck into a range of activities including horse riding, falconry, woodland walks and spa treatments.
