Day tour from Inverness to historic Isle of Iona. Iona is very special in Christian history as being where St Columba arrived having been banished from Ireland, and bringing with him the Christian message. He was instrumental in converting the tribes of the highlands to Christianity and indeed travelled the 140 or so miles from Iona to Inverness to convert the King of the Picts, King Brude, with whom he became good friends. We visit the Abbey which he founded in 565AD, although rebuilt down the centuries it is still a very spiritual place to visit. 48 early Scottish Kings are said to be buried here in the Reilig Odhrain buriel site adjacent to the Abbey. Amongst those are said to be, Kenneth Macalpine, first acknowledged King of Scots, along with Macbeth and Duncan 1. The Abbey Museum houses Scotlands finest collection of early Medievel Carved Stones and Crosses. The Tour duration is approx 14hrs and cost is £470. Entries and lunch are not included. Entries approx £12 p/p.
