Ullapool

Private Shore Excursions from Ullapool

A private Highland journey of landscapes, history and rare whisky, hosted with insight and care

This is more than a sightseeing tour. It is a privately guided journey into the wild beauty and deep history of the Northwest Highlands, designed specifically for guests arriving by cruise ship into Ullapool.

Hosted by an experienced local guide with an intimate knowledge of the region, this six hour shore excursion is carefully timed to fit comfortably within your ship’s schedule, ensuring a relaxed return to port while allowing you to experience some of the most dramatic scenery in Scotland in comfort and style.

Travel in a luxury SUV for up to four guests, offering a refined and intimate private experience, or choose our premium minibus for groups of up to eight guests. Every journey follows carefully selected scenic routes, revealing rugged coastlines, ancient landscapes and quiet Highland corners that few visitors ever see.

At select viewpoints throughout the day, guests are invited to enjoy a private whisky tasting from our personal collection. These are rare and limited bottlings, chosen to complement the landscapes around you and offered as a quiet moment of reflection rather than a formal tasting.

Each Ullapool shore excursion is flexible by design. While the routes below provide inspiration, the day can be gently adapted to suit your interests, pace and the prevailing conditions, creating a relaxed and personal Highland experience rather than a fixed itinerary.

Suggested Touring Routes

Guests may choose one of two carefully designed directions, depending on their interests and prevailing weather and road conditions.

Southbound Route

Dramatic landscapes, gardens and coastal beauty

Travelling south from Ullapool reveals a rich mix of natural wonders and quieter Highland scenery.

Possible highlights include the striking Corrieshalloch Gorge, where a suspension bridge offers breathtaking views over ancient rock formations and cascading waterfalls. Inverewe Gardens provides a remarkable contrast, showcasing exotic plant life thriving on Scotland’s Atlantic coast. Scenic coastal viewpoints along Gruinard Bay offer opportunities for photography and quiet appreciation of the landscape. Where time and interest allow, an optional visit to a small local distillery or craft producer may also be included.

This route is ideal for guests who enjoy nature, photography and gentle exploration.

Northbound Route

Castles, coastlines and iconic Highland scenery

Heading north offers a journey into some of the most visually striking and historic landscapes in the Highlands.

Possible stops include Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve, where accessible viewpoints and interpretive displays explain the dramatic geology of the region. Ardvreck Castle, standing on the shores of Loch Assynt, provides a powerful glimpse into Highland clan history. Achmelvich Bay offers a surprising stretch of white sand and clear water, while the village of Lochinver and surrounding coastal viewpoints reveal sweeping views of mountains, lochs and sea.

This route suits guests drawn to history, dramatic scenery and classic Highland imagery.

Two Ways to Experience Your Ullapool Shore Excursion

All Ullapool shore excursions are private and hosted to the same high standard. Guests may choose the level of advance planning that best suits their travel style.

Standard Private Tour

A flexible, privately guided six hour shore excursion with admissions and optional attractions paid locally on the day. Ideal for guests who value freedom and spontaneity while benefiting from expert local hosting.

Curated Package

A fully organised shore excursion where key admissions and experiences are arranged in advance. This option offers clarity, ease and a seamless flow to the day, allowing you to relax completely from the moment you leave the ship.

The difference lies in the level of advance organisation. The experience, hosting and attention to detail remain consistently high.

This Ullapool shore excursion is designed for guests who want more than a panoramic drive. It offers space to breathe, time to absorb the landscape, and moments of quiet indulgence through rare whisky tastings and carefully chosen stops.

If you would like guidance on selecting the most suitable route or package for your visit, you are very welcome to get in touch in advance. We are always happy to help shape a shore experience that feels effortless, personal and memorable.
