West Coast

Signature Scotland

This bespoke Signature tour of Scotland will take you from bustling Edinburgh down the West Coast. Make your route your own, stopping at remote villages, iconic distilleries, and sites of outstanding natural beauty, including the lush Isle of Skye.

Signature Scotland: 11-Day Self-Drive Tour of Scotland

Day 1 – Arrival in Edinburgh

With its thriving arts scene and dynamic culinary culture, Edinburgh masterfully blends the ancient with the contemporary. Take your time to settle in and enjoy the charm of Scotland’s iconic capital.

Day 2 – Discover More of Edinburgh

Continue exploring this vibrant city. Visit the National Museum of Scotland, stroll along the Royal Mile, or take a short hike up Arthur’s Seat for sweeping views across the city.

Day 3 – From Historic Edinburgh to Dunkeld

Collect your Land Rover and set off for the Highlands. Travel via the historic city of Stirling, or head north through the UNESCO-listed Forth Bridge and the scenic landscapes of Perthshire en route to Dunkeld and the edge of Cairngorms National Park.

Day 4 – Exploring the Cairngorms

The day is yours to enjoy the Cairngorms. Discover Balmoral Castle, a royal retreat, enjoy a gentle riverside walk, or indulge in a whisky tasting at one of the region’s many world-renowned distilleries.

Day 5 – Crossing the Flow Country

Embark on one of the week’s most spectacular drives, passing through the vast, untouched expanse of the Flow Country. Admire protected peatlands, shimmering moor lochs, and remote wetlands before arriving on the dramatic North Coast.

Day 6 – Unspoilt Assynt

Discover a land of soaring peaks and pristine white-sand beaches. Rich with wildlife, Assynt is one of Britain’s last truly wild landscapes, where towering cliffs and hidden caves await exploration.

Day 7 – The Arctic Convoy Coast

Follow the meandering road along Scotland’s rugged west coast. Visit hidden Highland gems and stop by Loch Ewe, where you can uncover the poignant history of the World War II Arctic Convoy naval base.

Day 8 – Bealach na Bà & the Applecross Peninsula

Drive one of the most iconic stretches of the NC500 – the hairpin bends of Bealach na Bà. Share the road with Highland cattle, and stop for lunch at a humble blue cabin serving some of the best seafood in Scotland.

Day 9 – Discover the Isle of Skye

Skye, the largest and most storied of the Hebridean islands, offers dramatic landscapes and vibrant culture. Explore the harbour town of Portree, sip a dram at Talisker Distillery, or sample fresh oysters at the famed Oyster Shed.

Day 10 – Castles, Ferries and the West Coast

Take the Kylerhea ferry – the last manually operated turntable ferry in Scotland – across to the mainland. Pass through the postcard-perfect Kyle of Lochalsh and pause to admire the iconic Eilean Donan Castle. Finish your day in the coastal haven of Port Appin.

Day 11 – Return to Edinburgh

Make your return journey via Glen Coe and the hauntingly beautiful Rannoch Moor. Drive the Great Etive Road, famously featured in Skyfall, and if you wish, tackle Ben Nevis or opt for one of the scenic lower trails nearby.
