This tours theme revolves around Scotland’s greatest King, Robert the Bruce. Not only will this tour enlighten you about an important era in Scotland’s history, you will also be immersed in and connect with Scottish culture and heritage.

This fantastic scenic tour of Scotland is based on the story of The Outlaw King – Robert the Bruce and the Scottish Wars of Independence. Not only will you explore this pivotal era in Scottish history you will also visit the most beautiful parts of our country as well as discover some of the locations used in the amazing film The Outlaw King, filmed entirely in Scotland. On top of that you will stay in some fantastic properties, from 5-star hotels to heritage properties and you will even get the chance to experience a stay in a converted Castle. As ever with Inspiring Travel Scotland, this is a Private Tour, as such the departure dates are flexible, so choose whatever date you like. You will also have your own dedicated Driver/Guide on hand just for you and your party. The Driver/Guide will unlock all the history, myth and mystique, they will drive you to each location, show you the most beautiful parts of Scotland and take you on tours of various places of interest, all the while immersing you in the culture and helping you connect with our fantastic country in a way that you could not otherwise hope to. Along the way they will even use their experience and expertise to unearth some hidden gems, just for you.


Day 1 - You will be met at either Glasgow or Edinburgh airport (or other suitable place of your choosing if required) by your Inspiring Travel Scotland representative and transferred in a Private Vehicle to your 5-star hotel in Scotland’s largest city Glasgow, where you will stay for 1 night. If you arrive before check in time just leave your bags with the concierge and use the complimentary Hop on Hop off bus ticket provided, a great way to orientate yourself around the city and visit some sites, or maybe simply relax at the bar, it’s up to you, the rest of the day will be at your leisure.

A place of interest regarding the theme of this tour is Glasgow University, as well as being a location used in the filming of The Outlaw King it is also home to the Hunterian Museum which houses some objects and relics related to King Robert the Bruce, it is free to enter and worth a visit. There is also the Kelvingrove Park nearby as well as the Kelvingrove Museum and all are free to enter.


Day 2 - Today you will be met at your hotel by your friendly Driver/Guide. Look out for the gentleman in a kilt with the Inspiring Travel board. After a warm welcome to Scotland and introductions, you board your comfortable luxury A/C vehicle as your Private Guided Tour of our beautiful country begins in earnest.

Today you leave bustling Glasgow behind on your tour of Scotland, after a visit of Glasgow Cathedral, an interesting place to visit, made more so by the connection to one of The Bruce’s main supporters.

Next you will be taken South to Ayrshire, ancestral homeland of the Bruce family, to visit the scene of the first major victory for Robert the Bruce & against a foe of vastly superior numbers, Loudon Hill.

You will then journey through one of the most beautiful National Parks in Scotland, the Trossachs, skirting the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond as you travel. This scenic drive will give you a fantastic chance to take in the splendour of your surroundings. Once through the National Park You will pass through arguably some of the most majestic scenery in Scotland, from lowly Rannoch Moor suddenly there appears beautiful and dramatic Glen Coe where you will stay for the night in luxury accommodation.

Your Driver/Guide will accompany you and be on hand to tell you more about the history and myth as well as about the locations you see and visit that have a connection to the film.


Day 3 - When Bruce was defeated at Methven he became The Outlaw King. Hunted by the English he was on the run, subsequently he spent a lot of this time in the Hebridean Islands.

Today you leave the mainland behind and cross over the sea to the Isle of Skye, one of the most beautiful islands that make up the Hebrides. You will want to stop briefly and photograph the jaw dropping backdrop of the astounding Eilean Donan Castle before you continue across onto Skye and a commence a scenic journey around it, every corner you turn the island and the scenery becomes more beautiful.

There will be time for a stop at the Talisker Whisky distillery to tour the distillery and sample its delights, nearby Talisker bay was one of the backdrops used in the film, The Outlaw King.

Day 4 - Today you venture onto Loch Ness, the home of the Loch Ness Monster or Nessie as she is affectionately known, where you will set sail on the Jacobite Warrior for the 12pm boat trip taking in the surrounding scenery and visit Castle Urquhart.

Please note – Nessie sightings are never guaranteed.

Afterwards we continue the journey through another of Scotland’s National Parks, travelling through the Cairngorms on route to the Kingdom of Perth. Today at the end of your scenic journey you will be dropped off at a fantastic converted Castle, this will be your base for 2 nights as we explore the surrounding area that is pivotal in the story of the Bruce as well as visit locations used in the film The Outlaw King.


Day 5 - Your first stop today will be the to the historic home of Golf, St Andrews, where King Robert the Bruce held his first parliament after uniting Scotland.

After a look around St Andrews and a visit to the Abbey ruins, it is time to take visit the final resting place of The Bruce, Dunfermline Abbey. From March to late October you will be able to access the Abbey and visit the actual tomb of King Robert the Bruce.

Next, we travel to Stirling and Stirling Castle, to walk around the Castle and the ramparts with your Driver/Guide while you find out all about the Castles amazing history and its integral part in the story of Scotland and of the Outlaw Kings story.

Day 6 -Today it is time to visit Scone Palace, where King Robert was crowned after uniting Scotland and winning the Wars of Independence. You will have time to wander the Palace itself and the Palace grounds, as always your Driver/Guide will be on hand.

Next is a visit to the most famous battle site in Scotland, Bannockburn. The visitors centre is very hands on and interactive, as such is a fun way to learn about a moment that is pivotal in Scotland’s long history.

Now we make our way to Scotland’s beautiful capital, Edinburgh. On the way you may glimpse of St Michaels in Linlithgow and the nearby Blackness Castle which where both used as locations in The Outlaw King. As you arrive into Edinburgh there is still time for a tour of Craigmillar Castle which was used prominently in the film. Some of the most substantial sets were built here and featured thatch roofed villages in the surrounding parkland and medieval workshops in the Castle grounds itself.

It is now time to say a fond farewell to your Driver/Guide as you check into your luxury Edinburgh hotel, which boasts a fantastic view of Edinburgh Castle.


Day 7 - Having 2 nights in Edinburgh is great as today you will have the entire day to explore at your own pace.

Scotland’s beautiful capital city Edinburgh is a seamless blend of old and new, with its medieval old town and elegant Georgian new town and the majestic Edinburgh Castle perched above it all, look out for the statue of King Robert at the entrance to the Castle and for the modern tableau of his coronation inside the castle.

Don’t forget to leave time to visit Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace as well as use the Hop on Hop off bus & if time permits a visit the Royal Yacht Britannia, a voucher will be provided for entrance to these sites while in Edinburgh, to use at your leisure.


Day 8 - You will be collected from your hotel in Edinburgh by an Inspiring Travel Scotland representative and transferred to either Glasgow or Edinburgh Airport by Private Chauffeur Transfer.
