Edinburgh

Award winning Circular cycle tour of Edinburgh

We are Visit Scotland's Best Outdoor Experience 2022/23 + 2026. We have no need to use vehicles so you will ride for the entire duration of the tour. We start right in the heart of Craigmillar Castle ground which is 1.2 miles from the city centre.

20 Mile Edinburgh Circular Cycle Tour

Moderate | 20 miles | Approx. 5 hours | Minimum age 12

Discover the Edinburgh that most visitors never see on our spectacular 20-mile circular cycle tour. Starting and finishing at Bridgend Farmhouse, we’ll take you on a relaxed journey around the city, exploring a wonderful mix of canals, aqueducts, railways, gardens, beaches, tunnels and mountain scenery.

Our route includes some of Edinburgh’s hidden gems, including the Union Canal, Saughton Gardens, Dean Village, Port of Leith and Portobello Beach. We’ll circle the city while never travelling more than around two miles from the centre, yet you’ll often feel a world away from the busy tourist streets.

The route is mainly flat and follows paved, traffic-free cycle paths, with some gravel paths and short sections on roads with traffic lights. There are a few short inclines – after all, Edinburgh is famously built on seven hills! – but nothing too challenging. The route also includes a purpose-built cycle ramp down a set of steps.

We take our time, with a stop for refreshments along the way and plenty of opportunities to stop for photographs. With so much incredible scenery and interesting places to discover, you’ll want your camera ready!

Our knowledgeable local guides will bring the route to life, sharing stories, history and fascinating facts about the places we visit.

Energy rating: Moderate

You should be comfortable cycling for around 5 hours, including a stop. E-bikes are available to hire for £20 per person if you would prefer a little extra assistance.

Come and see Edinburgh from a completely different perspective – 20 miles of the city, its hidden corners and its beautiful surroundings, all by bike.
