Isle of Mull

Oban and Mull

Discover Scotland’s magic on a scenic trip from Edinburgh to Oban and the Isles. Explore castles, coastal villages, lochs, and sacred abbeys. From The Kelpies to Mull and Iona, this adventure blends history, nature, and unforgettable views.

Day 1: Edinburgh to Oban

Your journey begins with the bustling streets of Edinburgh fading into the distance as you head towards The Kelpies. These magnificent horse-head sculptures are truly a sight to behold, standing tall and proud, capturing the spirit of Scotland’s industrial past.

Next, we meander through the scenic landscapes on our way to Stirling, where the majestic Stirling Castle awaits. This historic fortress, rich in tales of Scotland’s past, offers a fascinating exploration of royal chambers, grand halls, and serene gardens. It’s a place where history comes alive with every step.

After immersing yourself in history, take a break to enjoy lunch at one of Stirling’s charming local cafés or restaurants. The Portcullis and The Smithy are popular spots, offering a variety of dishes that cater to every taste.

Our journey then takes us to the picturesque village of Luss, nestled on the banks of Loch Lomond. This charming village invites you for a leisurely stroll along its peaceful paths, where you can soak in the tranquil beauty of the loch and the surrounding hills.

From Luss, we head to Inveraray, where you can explore the stunning Inveraray Castle and its beautiful gardens. With its rich history and picturesque setting, it’s a delightful place to wander and reflect.

The final stop of the day, if time permits is St Conan’s, a historic kirk with unique architecture and serene surroundings on the banks of Lochawe. It’s a peaceful spot to take a moment of quiet contemplation before ending the day in Oban, where you can relax and settle into your accommodation after a day of adventures.

Day 2: Isle of Mull and Surroundings

The second day begins with a refreshing ferry ride from Oban to Craignure on the Isle of Mull. The journey itself is a treat, offering breathtaking views of the Scottish coastline.

Once on Mull, the scenic drive to Fionnphort is a visual delight, with rolling hills and coastal vistas accompanying you along the way. At Fionnphort, board a boat to the enchanting island of Staffa, renowned for its striking basalt columns and the mystical Fingal’s Cave. The island’s rugged beauty and unique formations are truly awe-inspiring.

After your adventure on Staffa, take a short ferry ride to Iona. Here, you can explore the historic Iona Abbey, one of Scotland’s most sacred sites, and if you’re up for it, a climb to Dùn Ì offers panoramic views that are well worth the effort.

As the day winds down, return to Fionnphort and drive back to Craignure for the ferry ride back to Oban, where you can relax and reflect on a day filled with natural wonders and historic treasures.

Day 3: Oban to Edinburgh

Begin your day in the charming coastal town of Oban, known for its fresh seafood and stunning vistas. Your first stop is McCaig’s Tower, a striking structure perched on Battery Hill, offering sweeping views of Oban and the islands beyond—a perfect spot for morning reflections and photos.

Next, venture to Dunstaffnage Castle, a storied ruin dating back to the 13th century. Set on a rocky promontory at the entrance to Loch Etive, it’s a place steeped in history, with scenic surroundings that invite exploration.

Continue to Castle Stalker, a picturesque fortress set on a tidal islet in Loch Laich. Its dramatic setting and historical significance make it a must-visit on your journey.

From there, head to the Glencoe Viewpoint to marvel at the dramatic landscapes of Glencoe. Known for its stunning scenery and historical importance, Glencoe is a place of breathtaking beauty.

Pause for a cozy lunch at The Drovers Inn, a historic establishment dating back to 1705, offering a warm atmosphere and traditional Scottish fare—perfect for a restful break.

After lunch, explore the village of Kilmahog, known for its serene beauty and tranquil atmosphere. It’s a wonderful spot to unwind before concluding your journey.

Finally, arrive back in Edinburgh, the vibrant capital city of Scotland. Reflect on your adventures and enjoy the lively ambiance of the city as your memorable journey comes to a close.
