Private Whisky Tastings in the Scottish Highlands & Speyside
Discover Scotch whisky in a more personal way with a private whisky tasting hosted exclusively for you and your guests, wherever you are staying in the Scottish Highlands or Speyside.
tuigsear brings the tasting to you. We host private whisky experiences at Highland estates, country houses, lodges, hotels, holiday homes, self-catering accommodation, private residences and suitable event venues, creating a relaxed and memorable evening without the need to travel to a distillery or join a scheduled group tasting.
Whether you are planning a private party, birthday, anniversary, wedding celebration, family gathering, corporate retreat, executive event, special function or Highland holiday, every tasting is carefully shaped around your group, your level of whisky knowledge and the occasion.
Whisky Tasting at Your Lodge, Estate, Hotel or Private Accommodation
One of the great advantages of a private tasting is simple: we come to you.
Your lodge, estate, hotel, holiday property or private accommodation becomes the setting for an evening of Scotch whisky, storytelling and Highland hospitality. There is no need to arrange onward transport or leave the comfort of your accommodation once the evening begins.
We bring the whisky and everything required for the tasting, allowing your group to settle in, relax and enjoy the experience at your own pace.
Private whisky tastings are available throughout the Scottish Highlands and Speyside, subject to location and availability, including Inverness, Easter Ross, Tain, Dornoch, Sutherland, Caithness and surrounding areas.
A Private Whisky Experience Tailored to You
Every tasting is thoughtfully curated around the interests, experience and pace of the group.
For guests discovering Scotch for the first time, we can provide an engaging introduction to Scotland’s whisky regions, styles, production and flavour.
For experienced whisky drinkers, the tasting can explore particular distilleries, regions, cask types, flavour profiles or more unusual expressions.
Each whisky is selected with intention. The aim is not simply to pour recognisable labels, but to create a line-up in which every dram contributes something different to the experience.
Our tastings feature carefully selected single malt Scotch whiskies, with distinctive, limited and harder-to-find bottlings from our personal collection included where appropriate.
The Classic Tasting
Four curated single malts · Approx. 1–1.5 hours
A welcoming introduction to the diversity of Scotch whisky.
Four carefully selected single malts are chosen to explore different regions, styles and flavour profiles, creating an accessible but rewarding journey through what makes Scotch so distinctive.
This is ideal for mixed groups, first-time whisky drinkers, celebrations and guests who want a relaxed private tasting without making the evening overly formal or technical.
The Signature Tasting
Six rare and exceptional whiskies · Approx. 2–2.5 hours
A deeper and more immersive private tasting for guests looking to explore Scotch at a higher level.
The Signature Tasting features six standout whiskies selected from our collection, which may include limited releases, single cask bottlings, older expressions or whiskies that are increasingly difficult to find.
Each dram is explored through its flavour, provenance, distillery story and place within the wider world of Scotch whisky.
This experience is particularly well suited to whisky enthusiasts, milestone celebrations, private groups and anyone looking for something genuinely special.
More Than a Standard Whisky Tasting
A tuigsear private tasting is designed to be informative without becoming formal.
Alongside each whisky, we explore the stories of the distilleries, the people behind them, the landscapes they come from and the traditions that have shaped Scotch whisky over generations.
We discuss aroma, flavour, production and maturation in an accessible and engaging way, adapting the depth of the tasting to the interests of the group.
Sensory elements may also be incorporated to help guests explore aroma and flavour beyond the glass and develop a deeper understanding of the whisky in front of them.
Guests are encouraged to ask questions, compare impressions and enjoy each dram in their own way.
This is not a lecture or scripted presentation. It is a shared experience around the table, hosted with knowledge, conversation, storytelling and genuine Highland hospitality.
Experienced Whisky Hosts
Private tastings are hosted by Liam, founder of tuigsear, and, where appropriate, John MacDonald, bringing together extensive whisky knowledge, distillery experience and a relaxed, engaging approach to hosting.
Liam has several years of experience within the whisky industry, including hosting premium tastings at Balblair Distillery, while John brings decades of knowledge and experience from within the Scotch whisky world.
Together, the emphasis is always on making whisky approachable, interesting and memorable, whether the group includes complete beginners or experienced enthusiasts.

Private Whisky Tastings for Estates, Lodges, Hotels & Accommodation Providers
We are also happy to work directly with Highland estates, hotels, lodges, accommodation providers, holiday-property managers, event organisers and corporate planners who would like to offer a private whisky tasting to their guests.
Tastings can be incorporated into private stays, house parties, celebrations, weddings, corporate programmes, incentive travel and special events, either as a stand-alone evening experience or as part of a wider Highland itinerary.
Where appropriate, we can coordinate with the property or organiser in advance so that the tasting fits naturally around dinner, arrival times and the wider schedule.
A Private Venue in Dornoch
With prior arrangement, tastings may also be hosted at the atmospheric Carnegie Whisky Cellars in Dornoch.
This offers a distinctive setting for guests who would like a dedicated whisky venue rather than hosting the experience at their own accommodation.
Across the Highlands, Speyside and Beyond
Private whisky tastings are available throughout the Scottish Highlands and Speyside, with travel considered according to the location, group and nature of the event.
For locations outside our usual operating area, additional travel costs may apply and will always be discussed in advance.
National and, on occasion, international enquiries may also be considered for suitable private events and special commissions.
Your Private Whisky Tasting
Every tasting is privately hosted and carefully prepared for your group.
The aim is simple: excellent Scotch whisky, genuine knowledge, engaging stories and an evening that feels relaxed, personal and memorable from beginning to end.
Whether you are discovering Scotch for the first time, marking an important celebration, staying with friends at a Highland estate, organising a private function or adding something distinctive to a corporate retreat, we will shape the experience accordingly.
Availability is limited, particularly for weekends, larger groups, private events and peak travel periods, so advance enquiry is recommended.
When getting in touch, please include your preferred date, location or accommodation, approximate group size, occasion and any particular whisky interests. We will then recommend the most suitable private tasting experience for your group.
