Fictional Castle - Lallybroch

Midhope Castle

Outlander Two Day Tour

The ultimate Outlander Tour. Don't just see the destinations that were the inspiration for filming but live them! These historical destinations look far better in person than they do on the TV screen. Spending an overnight in Inverness.

Day 01 - Glasgow/Edinburgh to Inverness

Hopetoun House

This grand house was a filming location for multiple scenes in Outlander, including being the setting of the Duke of Sandringham’s home.

Midhope Castle

Known in the series as Lallybroch and Jamie’s family home, and is a lovely 15th century castle.

Blackness Castle

Another 15th century castle used in the filming of Outlander to represent Fort William and where Jamie received lashes from Captain Randall. This domineering fortress is known as “the ship that never sailed” given its resemblance to a great stone ship.

Linlithgow Palace

Infamously known in the series as Wentworth Prison, this palace dates back to the 12th century and was actually the birthplace of many Scots Royals, including Mary Queen of Scots.

Stirling Castle

Although not a filming location in Outlander, this is a must see location steeped in Scottish History.

Doune Castle

Fictionally known as Castle Leoch and the home of Colum MacKenzie.

Pitlochry

A scenic location to stop off for lunch and a wander around.

Culloden

The real battlefield of Culloden which inspired the scenes for the series.

Clava Cairns

The author’s inspiration for the famous stone circle, this is a well preserved, bronze age burial cemetery.

Inverness

Stay the night in the capital to the Highlands.

Day 02 - Inverness to Glasgow/Edinburgh

Loch Ness

This tranquil location has many connections to Outlander. Make sure to be on the lookout for monsters lurking in the water whilst you visit!

Drumnadrochit

Where Roger, Claire and Brianna have a day trip in the series.

Urquhart Castle

The location where Claire spots the “waterhorse”. This is one of Scotland’s most famous and perfectly located castles.

Fort Augustus

This beautiful location lets you imagine what it was like for Jamie and Claire in those days.

Fort Wiliam

The real life setting which inspired the series.

Glencoe

This dramatic and awe-inspiring landscape features in the opening credits of Outlander.

Loch Lomond

On your journey home, you will pass through this romantic landscape.

The Kelpies

Whilst not featured in the Outlander series, this is a great place to end your journey before heading back to Edinburgh/ Glasgow. Best seen in the evening when the equine structure glow with colourful light.
