Originally owned by the Earl of Galloway, with a history dating back to 1750, the estate has taken on many different roles throughout the years. These have included becoming a prolific farm, farmers’ market, WW1 hospital and even an open air prison.
Under the new owner, Penninghame has reinvented itself featuring self-catering accommodation, a state of the art conference centre, bespoke cooking school and a one of a kind wedding venue.
Our seven apartments and lodges offer some of the best self-catering accommodation in Dumfries and Galloway. Each lodging is a mix of single, twin and double rooms, ideal for all the family or groups of friends who are looking for a good time away. All accommodation comes with freshly made beds, complimentary toiletries, sitting room and dining area, bedrooms and bathrooms as well as complimentary superfast wifi available throughout the estate.
The estate’s 100 acres are bordered on the west by the vibrant river Cree, and on the east by pristine woodland providing guests with plenty of space to adventure inbetween. The grounds feature a sprawling forest, picturesque pastures, a walled garden, outdoor bowling green, several hikes and biking trails. The grounds are also host to a wide range of wildlife including otters, badgers, foxes, deers, pine martens and aquatic species. It is truly a unique place with plenty of room to explore and relax.
