DESCRIPTION
Walkers will be dropped off along the Glenmuick Road, where we will cross over two new sturdy stiles to access the track taking us to the summit of Creag Dearg. Expect spectacular 360 degree views over towards the Coyles of Muick, Lochnagar, Cairn Leuchan and Mount Keen, weather permitting. We will visit a shooting hut or two along the route between Creag Dearg and Craig Vallich, shortly after which we begin our long but steady descent via Pannanich Hill into Ballater, a good workout for the knees! Keep your eyes peeled for a sighting of the resident papier-mache hare. We will also walk past the old curling and skating ponds, as well as Sir Allan Russell MacKenzies Memorial built in 1906, before we arrive into Ballater.
TERRAIN
The path predominantly follows Land Rover tracks, or a track which is well-trodden. Some steep ascent to reach the top, and a long steady descent requiring sturdy footwear and poles, if you use these.
