While other small towns near Edinburgh may be little more than dormitory suburbs Dalkeith has always been its own place. It's the county town for Midlothian and still has agricultural connections. There's a bike shop and Dalkeith Estate which has facilities for children and attractive walks is worth visiting.
Route Description
There is a fenced section at the paper mill then a tunnel. The path is broken by a road junction at Rosewell - cross over and you will see it again. After this it passes under the A6094. It seems to end at Bonnyrigg, however keep straight on in the same direction. Cross Campview Road and go down by a swing park and a station platform with flower beds. Cross Dundas Street and go down Waverley Court. Soon it becomes obvious that you are on a cycle path again. You pass over a bypass road and end in a yard. Turn right down a dirt track then left to another cycle path. Now you are cycling on National Cycle Network Route 1. Keep straight on past a station platform. Turn right at another cycle path T junction. When you meet the public road turn left and follow the A6094 and National Cycle Network Route 1 signs to get through Dalkeith.
