Award winning cycle tour to the coast

A lovely easy going 12 mile bike tour to the beach! All (mostly) traffic free on cycle paths using manual or E bikes. Perfect for families!

Energy rating: Easy to Moderate. Families welcome if confident on a bike / we have rear child seats for younger kids

Distance: 12 miles (3 hours)

Terrain: Short distances on roads. Traffic free cycle paths. All paved.

We shall start by cycling through the Victorian-era Innocent Tunnel which was built in 1860 and goes underneath Holyrood Park. We then enjoy a flowing downhill ride beside Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh's extinct volcano and through Duddingston Village, passing Scotland's oldest surviving pub of 1360. We then cycle onto the National Cycle Network 1 path to Portobello beach. There we shall stop for a refreshment outside if sunny or indoors if the Scottish weather is against us!
