Best of Isle of Skye and the Highlands 5-Day Small Group Tour by Click Tours

Mountains, valleys, and forests—nothing rivals nature’s wild beauty. From Skye’s windswept lighthouse to pristine Highland beaches, we explore Scotland’s wilderness and unwind in peaceful, cosy villages.

Day 1 Dunkeld & Loch Ness

Leaving Edinburgh, we travel north across the Firth of Forth, with views of the famous bridges along the way. The scenery soon shifts as we pass through rolling hills and forests on our way to the Highland village of Dunkeld, nestled by the River Tay. Take a moment to explore this peaceful village, known for its historic cathedral and charming streets.

From here, we venture into the heart of the Highlands, entering Cairngorms National Park. The route takes us through the ancient pine forests of the Rothiemurchus estate, surrounded by rugged peaks and wide open landscapes.

We stop in the area where you’ll have free time for lunch before continuing towards the legendary Loch Ness. We pause by the water’s edge at the village of Dores, the perfect spot to admire the loch—and maybe even glimpse the elusive Nessie.

Our journey ends for the day on the shores of Loch Broom, where we settle in for two nights at the picturesque fishing village of Ullapool.

Day 2 Achmelvich Bay and the fishing village of Lochinver

Today, you journey through the remote northwest Highlands and the dramatic peaks of Assynt. This region is known as the first crofting community purchased by its residents, now managed by the Assynt Crofters’ Trust.

You’ll delve into local history with a stop at the 15th-century ruins of Ardvreck Castle, once home to the MacLeods of Assynt.

The route offers breathtaking views of some of Europe’s most ancient landscapes, the dazzling white sands of Achmelvich Bay, and the charming fishing village of Lochinver.

Tonight, you stay in the scenic fishing village of Ullapool.

Day 3 Corrieshalloch Gorge & Bealach na Ba

Today, you travel south to witness the River Droma’s dramatic 60-meter drop into Corrieshalloch Gorge.

You then pass the mountains of the Beinn Eighe nature reserve and follow the scenic coastline of Loch Torridon.

After free time for lunch in Applecross, you drive along Bealach na Bà, one of Scotland’s highest and most thrilling roads.

In the afternoon, you visit the “tropical” village of Plockton, where palm trees grow beside Loch Carron, offering a peaceful retreat. Finally, you cross the sea to Skye and arrive at the charming harbour town of Portree.

Day 4 Exploring the Isle of Skye

Today is a flexible day on Skye, with your driver-guide choosing a unique route based on the weather, local events, and your group’s interests.

You might head north to explore the Trotternish Ridge and its geological marvels like the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, and the striking mountain pass of the Quiraing. Alternatively, your guide may take you on a journey through history, sharing stories of legends and clan life at Dunvegan Castle, the 13th-century seat of Clan MacLeod.

You return to Portree by evening.

Day 5 Eilean Donan Castle & Glencoe

You leave Skye and visit the famous Eilean Donan Castle.

Then you head east through the rugged Kintail mountains, driving down Glen Garry past Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, and arrive in Fort William for free time for lunch.

In the afternoon, you explore the spectacular Glencoe valley, known for the 1692 massacre of Clan Macdonald.

After that, you begin your journey toward Edinburgh.
