Old Town Edinburgh

Ghosts & Gore Tour

A gentle early-evening outdoor tour of Edinburgh's Royal Mile closes and courtyards, meeting some frightful but friendly 'Jumper-Ooters' with plenty of time to chat!

Your guide is Alexander Clapperton (deceased), who was a merchant, philanthropist and Edinburgh cemetery director during the 1840s.

Mr Clapperton takes a light-hearted look at Edinburgh's dark past, telling tales of tortures, plague, witchcraft & invasion as he leads you through the Old Town's atmospheric closes & courtyards.

En route Mr Clapperton will introduce some Edinburgh characters summoned from the mists of time.

Tour lasts 90 minutes (approx.)

This tour departs from outside the front of the Witchery Restaurant, 352 Castlehill, Royal Mile (near Edinburgh Castle), EH1 2NF.

** Please note that from Monday 29th July 2024 to Saturday 24th August 2024 (except Sundays 4, 11, 18 August), all tours will depart from the supplier's shop, located at 84 West Bow (Victoria Street), EH1 2HH.

This is due to the annual Military Tattoo event and dress rehearsals taking place on Castlehill. Since this event will not be held on Sundays during this period, on those days, tours will depart from the usual meeting point - outside the front of 'The Witchery Restaurant' on Castlehill.

Also on 5th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th July 2024 there are music concerts at Edinburgh Castle so the tours will depart from the supplier's shop, located at 84 West Bow (Victoria Street), EH1 2HH.

Booking in advance is essential.
