Scalloway & Ponies Tour

A short informative drive around the capital town on Lerwick, before heading to Scalloway on Shetland Atlantic coast, where we will visit the Scalloway Museum and the fantastic 'Carols Ponies' to meet this adorable native breed.

After a short tour around the Town of Lerwick, we drive west to our first stop which is a spectacular viewpoint overlooking the town of Scalloway. Next on the agenda is a visit to Carol’s Ponies, where the owner will enthusiastically share her knowledge about the breed. You will have the opportunity to stroke and photograph these super cute ponies before heading to Scalloway Museum, where you will have plenty time to browse the exhibits and gift shop and enjoy views of the 16th century Scalloway Castle alongside. Built in 1599 by tyrant Earl Patrick Stewart, this castle with a dark history is a great example of the Scottish tower house style. The museum has a snapshot of all Shetland life in the past, geology, knitwear and a section devoted to the secret WWII operation called ‘The Shetland Bus’. This operated into the harbour of Scalloway from occupied Norway. A new outdoor traditional boat display will not disappoint. Good quality coffee and snacks are also available to purchase.

Lunch stop at local venue if desired.

On leaving Scalloway we travel a few miles northwards through the Tingwall valley hearing about its Norse heritage, enroute to a panoramic viewpoint looking South and West over uninhabited islands in the Atlantic Ocean.

Stops at the attractions on this tour are leisurely and driving times are short, so in 10 minutes from our final stop we will be back in town at our start point.
