This tour offers the best of Perthshire by exploring its stunning landscapes, fascinating history and one of the most influential spots in Scottish history, Scone Palace.
Our day will begin at the pick-up location in Edinburgh and depart swiftly at 8am. Crossing the Queens Ferry bridge, you’ll have fantastic views of the 3 bridges spanning the Firth of Forth, including the world-famous Forth Rail bridge.
Onwards we travel north towards Perth, where we’ll explore the captivating Kinnoull Hill. The tower's ruins aren’t what they may seem when it first comes into view.
After taking in the fabulous views of Perth, we’re back in the van and head to one of our favourite stops, Scone Palace. You’ll be able to explore this stunning palace and its grounds and learn about its extraordinary history.
From here, we travel further north into Perthshire’s stunning landscape to the Queen’s View. A spectacular viewpoint that Queen Vicotria had visited on her travels through Scotland. Here we’ll grab lunch at the lovely cafe.
After lunch, we head to our furthest northern point of the day, Killiecrankie. At this spot, you’ll head for a short walk through some beautiful woodland to take in the breathtaking views of the River Garry and the Soldier’s Leap. A spot where a Government soldier was fleeing Jacobite forces after the Battle of Killiecrankie.
Once you’ve learned about the Jacobite Uprisings, we’ll jump back into the van to begin our return journey south, but first, our journey stops at the awe-inspiring landscape of the Birks of Aberfeldy. A hike around pristine natural beauty, you’ll be able to understand why Scotland’s most famous poet, Robert “Rabbie” Burns was instantly inspired to write his poem/song “The Birks of Aberfeldy”.
From here, we’ll continue our journey south through some spectacular landscapes to another fascinating location, Huntingtower Castle. Mary Queen of Scots visited this location whilst on her honeymoon with Lord Darnley.
Her son James VI was held here against his will for 10 months! This was during what is known as the Ruthven Raids. You’ll also learn about a young woman’s Leap for Love between what would have been two separate towers at the time.
What a day it’s been! Exploring the stunningly beautiful landscape of Perthshire and Scone Palace we unfortunately now head south to our starting point in Edinburgh.
