St. Andrews Luxury Sightseeing Tour

The picturesque coastal road through Fife takes you through some of the most picturesque fishing villages in Scotland before arriving in St. Andrews, home of golf and Scotland's oldest university.

On leaving Edinburgh you would head west towards the Forth Bridge at South Queensferry and into the Kingdom of Fife. This is the ancient gateway to Fife and is now dominated by two massive bridges, the railway bridge being the older of the two dating from the 1890s. It is a spectacular sight as well as an engineering miracle. Close by is Hopetoun House, one of the most beautiful and grandiose stately homes in the UK.

The picturesque coastal road through Fife takes you through some of the most picturesque fishing villages in Scotland before arriving in St Andrews, home of golf and Scotland's oldest university. Here you might like to stop for lunch at the Seafood Restaurant which is perched on the cliffs at the West Sands of St Andrews, made famous as the location where the opening scenes of the movie Chariots of Fire were filmed.

No visit to St Andrews would be complete without a wander through the grounds of the ruined Cathedral, Castle and St Rules Tower as well as the historic university buildings. After leaving St Andrews you could head west towards historic Falkland. Falkland Palace, which is the focus of the village, dates from the 15th Century and of particular note here are the tennis courts which are the oldest in Britain, dating from 1539.

The next stop en route back to Edinburgh would be Linlithgow Palace, the birth place of Mary, Queen of Scots, and the venue for Chanel’s Metier D’Arts fashion show in December 2012. Linlithgow is a short drive away from the capital city which will ensure you have a relaxing and smooth drive back to your hotel.
