Stirling BridgeHeading out of Stirling to The National Wallace Monument you will pass Stirling Old Bridge.
Although the original timber bridge from the famous 1297 Battle of Stirling Bridge no longer exists, Stirling Old Bridge stands just downstream.
Steeped in history, Old Stirling Bridge was built in the late 1400s or early 1500s by Murdoch, Duke of Albany.
One of its arches was blown up by General Blackney in 1745 in an attempt to prevent Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Highlanders from crossing the River Forth.

Doune CastleThe formidable Doune Castle was built for the Regent Albany.
The striking keep-gatehouse combines domestic quarters including the splendid Lord’s Hall with its carved oak screen, musicians’ gallery and double fireplace.
This was used as a film location for the BBC production of Ivanhoe and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Doune Castle was also used for the castle known as Winterfell in the pilot of TV series Game of Thrones as well as Castle Leoch in Outlander.
The castle courtyard and cellar, including display, is accessible via a steep, cobbled tunnel.
Visitors can touch a number of stone features, such as the well in the courtyard.
