Ullapool Shore Excursion - Into Assynt

Go where the big coaches donn't go: Wild NW Highlands, rugged mountains, empty landscapes, iconic bridge, plenty of photo stops, castle ruins, endless views, small coach, local expert guide, duration 3 h 45 min to 4 h.

After a warm welcome from your local guide, a true Ullapool local who knows the roads, landscapes and stories of the region intimately, settle into your mini coach and set off into the wild.

Journey north into the vast, remote landscapes of Assynt, where the roads grow quieter, the mountains more rugged and the sense of wilderness ever stronger. Here, nature takes centre stage. Immerse yourself in sweeping vistas, lonely lochs and dramatic mountain peaks as the landscape unfolds around you.

Along the way, your experienced local guide and storyteller will bring the region to life, sharing fascinating stories of its history, geology, landscapes and people. There will be plenty of opportunities to step off the coach and take it all in, with scenic stops at Knockan Crag, Kylesku, Loch Assynt and the atmospheric ruins of Ardvreck Castle, as well as a selection of other viewpoints. Pause, breathe in the wild surroundings and capture the extraordinary natural beauty of Assynt in photographs.

Perfect for adventurers seeking raw beauty and a true sense of solitude, this experience is ideal for those who love wild and remote landscapes, rugged mountains, dramatic lochs, photography and exploring off the beaten track.

What you need to know:

  • Some photo stops involve uneven ground, so comfortable footwear is recommended.
  • Rain gear is strongly advised - the weather in the Highlands can change quickly.
  • Your tour is led by an experienced local expert guide.
  • As we venture deep into the wild, there are no shops or cafés along the route, so please come prepared with anything you may need for the journey.
  • Restroom facilities are available at two scenic stops.
