West Highland Way - Self Guided Walking Holidays Scotland

The West Highland Way was the first and remains the most popular long distance route in Scotland. From Milngavie near Glasgow to Fort William, situated below mighty Ben Nevis, the route offers a wonderful trek through Scotland's history and culture.

Beginning in the pastoral landscapes beneath the Campsie Hills, past Glengoyne Whisky Distillery towards the serene beauty of Loch Lomond and on into increasingly rugged and majestic Highlands, The West Highland Way has the deserved a reputation as Scotland's Finest Walking Route. Beyond Tyndrum and Bridge of Orchy it crosses the vast, awe-inspiring expanse of Rannoch Moor, with a glimpse down Glencoe, before ascending The Devil's Staircase path and on down into lovely Kinlochleven.

The walk finally reaches Fort William through beautiful Glen Nevis with the majestic Ben Nevis dominating the Highland Town.

On the Way you will encounter some of the most iconic scenery in Scotland as you walk ever more into the Highlands and be sure to have your picture taken in Gordon Square Fort William beside the "Sore Feet" statue that marks the end point of the route.

For those wanting to add an extra days walking it is even possible to begin in the heart of Glasgow, reaching Milngavie by following the Kelvin Walkway out of the city.
