A private Highland journey blending scenery, history and exceptional whisky
This privately guided shore excursion offers the perfect balance of Highland landscapes, cultural heritage and world class whisky, designed specifically for guests arriving by cruise ship into Invergordon.
Collected directly from the port, this six hour experience is carefully timed around your ship’s schedule, ensuring a relaxed and unhurried return while allowing you to experience some of the most beautiful and character rich parts of Easter Ross and Sutherland.
Your journey begins with a scenic drive over Struie Hill, where a panoramic viewpoint reveals sweeping views across the Dornoch Firth. From here, the landscape opens into quieter Highland countryside as we travel north, setting the tone for a day that feels spacious and unforced.
At the Falls of Shin, guests may have the opportunity to see wild salmon leaping upstream during the season, a striking reminder of the natural rhythms that shape the Highlands. The route continues through the villages of Lairg and Rogart before arriving at Dunrobin Castle, one of Scotland’s most dramatic stately homes. With its French inspired architecture, formal gardens and long aristocratic history, it offers a fascinating insight into the region’s past.
The historic town of Dornoch provides a contrasting pause in the day. Guests may wish to explore independent whisky shops, admire the medieval cathedral, wander the quiet streets or enjoy a short walk along the expansive sandy beach. Time here is unhurried and shaped around your interests.
No Highland journey would be complete without whisky. Depending on timing and preferences, the day may include a visit to one of the region’s most respected distilleries, or time permitting, both. Balblair and Glenmorangie each offer a distinct expression of the Highland style, from traditional craftsmanship to elegant modern distilling.
Where appropriate, we are also happy to include select Highland craft shops such as Tain Pottery, ANTA or Glassstorm, offering the chance to discover locally made pieces that reflect the character of the region.
Throughout the day, guests may also enjoy a private whisky tasting from our personal collection at suitable scenic stops. These are rare and limited bottlings, offered informally and thoughtfully as part of the wider experience.
