The Isle of Skye

5 Day Skye, Loch Ness & Inverness

Take a spectacular journey through the Highlands and the magical Isle of Skye. Venture through a range of classic Highland scenery; experience many local gems and be inspired by myths and legends.

DAY 1: Edinburgh to Oban

We leave Edinburgh and head north to Stirling and the towering Wallace Monument with stunning views of the Castle. We enter the Highlands heading through wild Rannoch Moor and Glencoe and on to the fishing port of Oban. (Overnight: Oban)

DAY 2: Oban to Isle of Skye (Summer)

Take the train* from Fort William across the Glenfinnan viaduct featured in the Harry Potter movies and take in the sweeping views of Loch Shiel. We arrive in Mallaig and take the ferry ‘Over the Sea to Skye’. You can explore Armadale Castle and Gardens, the former home of the MacDonalds, before driving north to our overnight destination. (Overnight: Portree)

*Not the Jacobite Steam Train. April till mid-October

DAY 2: Oban to Isle of Skye (Winter)

Travel through some of the most scenic Scottish landscapes ranging from stunning mountains, shimmering lochs, misty glens to heather moors. We pass the Five Sisters of Kintail - graceful mountains which are enchanted daughters of the local chief waiting for their promised husbands. The route also takes us past the most photographed Scottish Castle; Eilean Donan Castle before crossing the Skye Bridge to the mysterious Isle of Skye and our overnight destination Portree. (Overnight: Portree)

*(Late October)

DAY 3: Isle of Skye to Inverness

We explore more of the magical Isle of Skye with its awe-inspiring mountains, stunning coastline, myths and legends before returning to the mainland. On the way to Loch Ness, we stop at the incredibly photogenic Eilean Donan Castle and wind our way along the Great Glen to Inverness, the Capital of the Highlands. (Overnight: Inverness)

DAY 4: Inverness

Hunt for the elusive monster with a cruise on Loch Ness before turning northward to the stunning beauty of the north-west Highlands. We take in the beautiful town of Beauly with its Priory dating back to 1230, then it's into the rugged and isolated mountains that secure Scotland's place as one of the last great wilderness in Europe. We try a dram of the 'water of life' at a Highland Whisky Distillery before heading back to Inverness for the evening. (Overnight: Inverness)

DAY 5: Inverness to Edinburgh

We explore Culloden Battlefield, the scene of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s defeat back in 1746 then the mysterious chamber cairns of Clava Cairns; which inspired the hit TV series Outlander. We visit the Highland Folk Museum to get a real taste of Highland life from the past centuries before heading to Dunkeld with its mighty cathedral, on our way back to Edinburgh. The tour returns at approximately 5.30pm.
