Dalle Shetland alle Orcadi seguendo le rotte dei Vichinghi

Questo tour è un MUST per gli appassionati di isole, per gli amanti di natura e fotografia, per chi cerca un viaggio fuori dalle rotte turistiche tradizionali e per gli appassionati di archeologia e folklore locale!

Questo tour parte dalla meravigliosa Aberdeen, anche chiamata Città d'Argento, sulla Cost Nord Orientale della Scozia. Noi consigliamo la traversata notturna in Ferry verso queste Isole all’estremo nord della Scozia, tra le più remote di tutta Europa. Spazzate dal vento per quasi tutto l’anno, qui non possono crescere alberi e le brughiere si colorano del viola dei fiori d’erica ogni estate. Nell’entroterra il taglio della torba fa da padrone, con migliaia di mattoncini esposti al sole a seccare, l’unico combustibile a disposizione dei locali per scaldare i lunghi e bui inverni, i cui cieli vengono illuminati solo dalle aurore boreali multicolore e dalle fiaccole dei festival del fuoco propiziatorie al ritorno della luce, dalle antiche radici celtiche e vichinghe. La fauna di queste isole è assolutamente straordinaria. Sulla costa e nelle brughiere si radunano in stormi senza fine uccelli marini che, dopo aver passato l’inverno in alto mare, scelgono queste isole per deporre le uova e preparare i propri pulcini al volo. Tra tutti, i protagonisti indiscussi sono i pulcinella di mare, goffi uccelli dai colori sgargianti, molto socievoli e sempre in posa per le macchine fotografiche dei visitatori. I mammiferi marini popolano invece le acque delle tranquille baie dai colori blu sgargianti: dalle foche, residenti permanenti, ai delfini e persino alle orche! Ma la star indiscussa è l’intelligentissima lontra europea, di cui, alle Shetland, vive la colonia più grande d’Europa. Ma Orcadi e Shetland non sono solo natura. Le popolazioni delle Isole vivono da migliaia di anni uno stato di isolamento tale da aver sviluppato una propria lingua, un atteggiamento di supporto reciproco che viene esteso a chiunque visiti la loro terra e tradizioni artistiche, architettoniche, culinarie e artigianali uniche. Offrono inoltre siti archeologici dell’età del Ferro e del Bronzo, testimonianze vichinghe e tracce indelebili del ruolo chiave rivestito da queste isole durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, quali la Cappella Italiana alle Orcadi.
