The National Wallace Monument

The Wallace Monument is Scotland’s national monument to the memory of William Wallace . The monument is a tower with panoramic views of Stirling and the Forth Valley . The top of the tower is called the Crown and it can be reached by a spiral staircase . See the real Wallace Sword and get the chance to climb the 246 steps to the Crown , the top of the Monument.

Last year the National Wallace Monument had its busiest year ever with a record 144,200 visitors .

This figure also exceeds the average annual number of visitors to the Monument (135,000) in the 10-year period after the release of Braveheart, which sparked a new wave of interest in the story of Wallace across the globe

Stirling Castle

Stirling Castle is one of Scotland’s most impressive castles due to its imposing position and impressive architecture. The castle was crucial strategically during the Wars of Independence as whoever held the castle could control Stirling Bridge and the movement of troops and civilians North and South .

Did Robert the Bruce actually betray Wallace ?

Tourists often want to know if the film accurately portrayed Robert the Bruce as turning his back on Wallace, or if that was dramatic fiction. Robert the Bruce did not betray Wallace . It was a dramatic twist in the plot but it is not true. There is no evidence that Bruce and Wallace ever met. The Bruce clan , in common with many Scottish nobles , owned land in Scotland and England . I read a biography of Robert the Bruce which said he owned land in Tottenham , North London .

Your ticket includes a guided tour of the castle, available every half hour . The Unicorn cafe is inside the castle and it is our recommended place for lunch on this tour .

To avoid booking fees you can make a booking by phone / WhatsApp on +447305294773 or contact us online . This tour costs £295.

Stirling Castle is not only one of Scotland’s grandest and most imposing castles, it was also a real favourite with Scotland’s Stewart kings and queens. James V created the Great Hall, the largest medieval banqueting hall ever built in Scotland, and James V’s Royal Palace, with its lavishly decorated Renaissance façades, was a masterpiece of the period, and the childhood home of Mary , Queen of Scots .

Day trips from Edinburgh , Scotland

On this tour as we drive to Stirling we pass the site of the Battle of Falkirk 1298, where Wallace was defeated by the English army .
