We’ll collect you in InvernessWe will collect you at your Inverness city centre accommodation around 09.30 for your hassle-free small group walking tour experience in the wonderful Highlands.
Reelig GlenA 20-minute scenic drive takes us out of the city and along the southern shore of the Beauly Firth. Our first stop is a gentle hike (2km / 60m ascent) around the stunning Reelig Glen, this is a lovely walk along the Moniack Burn and is called The Fairy Glen by the locals. The glen is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its amazing array of mosses and lichens and is home to some of the tallest trees in Britain. After visiting the folly, we cross the river and head up hill through the treetops to a section of magical open beech woodland now managed by the local community. Feel the crunch and shuffle of copper beech leaves as we descend some rough steps back to the car park.
A hidden gem that you won’t find in a guidebookAfter driving for around 5 minutes we now head right into the heart of the In Your Element back yard. This hidden gem of a highland walk is a delight and never in any guidebook. This walk has a variety of different highland scenes, created by a bewitching array of heathers, woodland, ferns, rocky outcrops, and cascading streams. This area is home to red kites, buzzards, red squirrels, badgers and several types of deer so keep your eyes and ears open as we hike.
Views of the hills and the Beauly FirthUp through the pine woodland up to the forest track we will head to a hilltop for wonderful views of Ben Wyvis, mountain ranges to the west and down the Beauly Firth towards Inverness. After a picnic lunch of lovely hot home-made soup and yummy local produce we will continue down and through various highland scenes and visiting one of the three iron-age fort sites in this location. This highland location so close to Inverness provides a wonderful guided walk/hike through the trees to totally immerse ourselves in nature and gulp in the fresh air.
