Outlander Towns and Villages

Let Scottish Classic Tours chauffeur you around Scotland in the comfort of an award winning classic car or iconic VW campervan. We would love to share Scotland with you. Take home unforgettable memories.

Tour Highlights

  • Pick up from location
  • Culross (Crainsmuir)
  • Falkland (Inverness)
  • Dysart Harbour (Le Harve)
  • Aberdour Castle (Monastic Hospital)
  • Drop off at location

Culross became the fictional village of Cranesmuir due to it being a perfectly preserved 18th Century Scottish village. It was home to Geillis Duncan and her husband Arthur. The Mercat Cross in the centre of the village is where Claire and Gellis were to be burned at the stake. Culross Palace and Gardens is where Claire and Geillis picked herbs together. Scenes of the Jacobite encampment and hospital following the Battle of Prestonpans were also filmed here. Please note Culross Palace and Gardens is closed from 1st November to 31st March 2019.

The beautiful village of Falkland became Inverness in the 1940's where Frank and Claire commenced their second honeymoon and where Claire returns in 1968 for the Reverend Wakefield’s funeral. See Mrs Baird’s Guest House, (The real life Covenanter Hotel) and the Bruce Fountain where Jamie’s ghost looks up at Claire’s window. Brunton Street, Rotten Row and Sharps Close depicted Inverness in 1746.

Near Glenrothes is Balgonie Castle where Claire, following Jamie’s promise to give himself to Black Jack Randall to secure her release, goes to plea for assistance to secure Jamie’s escape. Murtagh comes up with the idea of using Sir Marcus MacRannoch’s Highland cattle. The castle was once home to the first Governor of The Bank of England. Please not Balgonie Castle is not open to the public on Mondays or Tuesdays although you can still see and photograph the outside.

Dysart Harbour became the French port of Le Havre where Jamie and Claire land following their escape from Scotland. It is here that Claire discovers one of the Comte St Germain’s sailors has smallpox causing his ship and cargo to be burnt and turning the Comte into a deadly enemy.

Aberdour Castle became the monastery where Jamie was brought to recover after his traumatic experiences at the hands of Black Jack Randall. Aberdour Castle is believed to be Scotland’s oldest castle

This is a full day tour. Lunch can be taken at a variety of locations either in Falkland or Dysart. Contact us for more information.
