Walking and hiking
Scotland has a great variety of walking options from dramatic coastal paths to breath-taking mountain routes, and simple countryside footpaths to wilder peaceful trails.
Challenge yourself with over 280 Munros (mountains over 3,000 ft) including the iconic Ben Nevis, or breakdown one of our long-distance routes into a slow meander over a week with stunning scenery.
Cycling
Scotland is home to railway paths, canal towpaths, forest roads, shared-use paths and cycle lanes which allow you to safely explore the country. Choose one of the country’s national routes routes such as the Ayrshire Coast Cycle Way with views of Arran or the Round the Inner Forth for two days of Scotland’s rich industrial heritage – and the Kelpies!
Head into the outdoors on two wheels where you can choose from over 2,000 miles of that encompass country roads and cycle paths. Follow along colour coded signposts, take in the rolling landscapes, and travel at your own pace.
Mountain biking
Scotland’s landscape was made for mountain biking. Our mountain bike trails will take you through hills, glens and forests or there are brilliant beginner-friendly bike parks and pump tracks plus a network of guides, shops and biker-friendly cafés.
Watersports
Scotland is an ideal location for enjoying a range of watersports due to its diverse landscapes that boast thousands of kilometres of coastline, hundreds of islands, and, of course, our famous lochs and rivers.
Take a gentle paddle down one of our rivers in a canoe or kayak – the Argyll Sea Kayak Trail has eight sections to explore, along the stunning coastline and the Crinan Canal. Get in on the latest trend of paddleboarding in one of our east coast towns such as St Andrews or Dunbar. Feel the magic of water in your face as you career down the wild rivers of Perthshire with some white water rafting.
Golf courses and greens
Scotland is known as the Home of Golf thanks to our history and over 500 courses across links, parkland and 9-holes. Try a round yourself or watch the greats compete head-to-head in tournaments such as the Open Championship and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
