Blair Street Underground Vaults, Edinburgh

Mercat Tours - Halloween Underground

A Halloween underground ghost tour of Edinburgh’s most haunted vaults. Get up close to Edinburgh’s ghostly past and learn what makes Samhuinn the spookiest time of year.

A haunted heart beats beneath Edinburgh's streets.

There’s nothing quite like taking a ghost tour of Edinburgh’s most haunted vaults on the most haunted night of the year. And if the horrifying stories from Edinburgh’s ghastly past don’t chill your blood, your brush with the city’s ghostly present surely will.

The famous Blair Street Underground Vaults are unsettling at the best of times: a candlelit labyrinth of echoing chambers and damp stone, where every creak, every whispered breath, seems to come from something unseen. At Halloween, the tension tightens. Every footstep seems louder. Every silence, heavier. The experience is unforgettable.

When the veil between worlds is thin, the past refuses to rest

Your journey begins at Edinburgh’s Mercat Cross, once a place of public punishment where criminals were tortured and executed. There, a Master Mercat Storyteller awaits to immerse you in the folklore of Samhuinn, the world of spirits and the sìdh. Then, they will lead you through the atmospheric Old Town, sharing macabre tales in darkened closes en route.

Finally, you’ll descend into the Blair Street Underground Vaults. Down here, surrounded by silence and candlelight, you’ll hear sinister stories of body snatchers, murderers, ghosts and ghouls. Tread softly. In the vaults no one can hear you scream...
