Kevin and pals enjoy a visit to Dalwhinnie
Islands and Highlands
Historical sites, stunning scenery and plenty of whisky options. We can customise this with more whisky and less sightseeing. A superb 7 night/8 day tour staying in a baronial castle and waterside hotels.
Day 1: Marcus meets you (ideally in Glasgow) and whisks you away to the west coast, “west is best”. Take a short ferry to the wee isle of Arran (Scotland in miniature), visit the picturesque Lochranza Distillery before returning to the mainland, staying overnight at the lovely Stonefield Castle.
Day 2: After breakfast head to Oban, the seafood capital of Scotland. En route you stop at Kilmartin Glen, see and touch 5,000 year old standing stones and burial cairns. Take a tour of Oban Distillery, built in 1794 before the town! For non whisky drinkers, there’s plenty to do in the pretty harbour town. Check into your hotel in an executive room with sea views
Day 3: A morning sail (45 mins) to the Isle of Mull where you take a tour of the Tobermory Distillery (non drinkers wander around this pretty wee harbour). Time for lunch in a local pub before visiting Duart Castle, built in the fourteenth century, home to the Clan Chief, of the Clan Maclean. Return to Oban, overnight as above.
Day 4: Drive north via the brooding Glencoe, drop into Ben Nevis Distillery and after lunch stop at Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous in the Harry Potter movies. Overnight at Arisaig Hotel your charming waterfront accomodation for 2 nights.
Day 5: Take the short crossing from Mallaig to Skye, A full day on this stunning island with sights abound and the option of distillery visits at Talisker and Torabhaig. Return via ferry to Arisaig.
Day 6: Heading east via stunning mountain scenery you can drop into Dalwhinnie Distillery where they pair drams with chocolates. A visit to the beautiful Blair Castle and gardens is recommended. Time to explore the pretty Victorian town of Pitlochry where you stay overnight in luxury accommodation.
Day 7: Distillery options today include Aberfeldy and Blair Athol (Bells) which has a bar made from an old mash tun. We can arrange a private tasting at our friends Robertsons. Plenty of shopping and dining options in Pitlochry.
Day 8: Heading south your final distillery visit is Tullibardine, French owned with interesting wine cask finishes. Time to visit Doune Castle made famous by Monty Python and Outlander before Marcus drops you at your hotel in Edinburgh or Glasgow
