Invergordon Cruise Ship

Private Shore Excursions from Invergordon

Discover the Highlands from Invergordon on a private shore excursion combining dramatic scenery, historic places, local character and whisky where desired.

This privately guided shore excursion offers a carefully balanced introduction to the Scottish Highlands, combining dramatic landscapes, cultural heritage, historic towns and, where desired, world-class whisky.

Designed specifically for guests arriving by cruise ship into Invergordon, this six-hour experience is carefully planned around your ship’s schedule, allowing you to explore some of the most beautiful and characterful parts of Easter Ross and Sutherland at a relaxed and unhurried pace.

Collected directly from the port, your journey may begin with a scenic drive over Struie Hill, where panoramic views stretch across the Dornoch Firth and surrounding countryside. From here, the landscape opens into quieter Highland roads and rural communities, setting the tone for a day that feels spacious, personal and far removed from a conventional coach excursion.

Depending on the route and season, the day may include a visit to the Falls of Shin, where wild Atlantic salmon can sometimes be seen leaping upstream, before continuing through the Highland villages of Lairg and Rogart towards the east coast.

One of the region’s great landmarks is Dunrobin Castle, dramatically positioned above the Moray Firth. Its distinctive architecture, formal gardens and long history offer a fascinating insight into the people, estates and stories that have shaped this part of the Highlands.

The historic town of Dornoch provides a relaxed contrast. Here, guests may choose to explore the medieval cathedral, browse independent shops, visit specialist whisky retailers, wander the quiet streets or take a short walk towards the expansive sandy beach. Time here is shaped around your interests rather than a rigid schedule.

Whisky can form part of the experience without having to dominate the day. Depending on your interests, timing and availability, we may include a visit or tasting at one of the region’s respected distilleries, including Balblair or Glenmorangie, each offering its own perspective on Highland whisky.

At suitable scenic stops, guests may also be invited to enjoy a hosted whisky tasting selected from our personal collection. These carefully chosen drams are offered informally as part of the wider journey, creating an opportunity to pause, enjoy the setting and experience another aspect of Highland culture.

Where appropriate, we can also incorporate selected local makers and craft businesses, including places such as ANTA or Glassstorm, adding another dimension to the day and an opportunity to discover work created here in the Highlands.

Explore More of the Highlands During Your Cruise

If your cruise itinerary includes more than one of Invergordon, Ullapool and Scrabster, you don’t need to start again with a different tour company at every port. tuigsear offers private shore excursions from all three, allowing us to create a seamless multi-day Highland experience across your voyage.

Each port opens the door to a completely different part of Scotland, from castles, historic towns, whisky and gentle Highland landscapes around Invergordon, to the mountains, lochs and wild Atlantic scenery of Ullapool and Assynt, and the dramatic coastline, ancient history and character of Caithness from Scrabster.

Spend more than one day with us and your experience becomes even more personal, with each excursion complementing the last rather than repeating it.

If your cruise visits two or three Highland ports, send us your full itinerary when enquiring and we’ll recommend the best combination of experiences for your time ashore.

Two Ways to Experience Your Shore Excursion

Every Invergordon shore excursion is private and hosted with the same care and attention to detail. Guests can choose the level of advance organisation that best suits them.

Standard Private Tour

A flexible, privately guided six-hour Highland experience shaped around your interests and cruise schedule, with any admissions or additional visitor experiences paid separately.

This option is ideal for guests who value flexibility while still benefiting from knowledgeable local hosting and a carefully considered route.

Curated Package

A carefully organised shore excursion where agreed admissions and experiences are arranged in advance.

This option offers clarity, ease and a seamless flow to the day, allowing you to simply step ashore and enjoy a thoughtfully structured Highland experience.

The difference between the two options lies in the level of advance organisation. The standard of hosting, care and personal attention remains consistently high.

Comfortable Private Travel

Travel is provided in a premium SUV for up to four guests or a comfortable premium minibus for groups of up to eight guests, allowing you to experience the Highlands privately and at a relaxed pace.

Larger private groups may also be accommodated by prior arrangement, and extended touring time may be possible depending on your ship’s schedule and availability.

More Than a Single-Focus Tour

This Invergordon shore excursion is ideal for guests who want to experience the Highlands as a whole rather than build the day around one single theme.

It offers variety without rush, depth without overload, and the freedom to combine scenery, history, local places, food, whisky and quieter moments according to what interests you most.

If you would like guidance on shaping the experience around your arrival and departure times, please get in touch. We will be happy to recommend the best way to make the most of your time ashore.
