Tour to Scone Palace

Private Tour for 1 - 3 people to Scone Palace and historical sites, en - route. Tour leaves from Inverness.

Private Tour to Scone Palace for 1 - 3 people, leaving from Inverness. En - route we visit Ruthven Barracks. Built in the early 1700s for govt troops stationed there to maintain law and order in the face of the Jacobite uprisings. Keeping with the Jacobite theme we then travel onto Killiekrankie, where in 1689 the Jacobites won the battle in favour of the deposed King James 11 against the hanovarian govt red coats. Travelling farther along the Glen we come to the Queens View, this is the beautiful view of loch Tummel and the Shiehallion hills beyond. On through Pitlochry and we're down to Dunkeld and Birnam. We visit the remnants of Birnam Wood, made famous in Shakespears Macbeth. Two ancient trees stand here, the huge Sycamore, over 300yrs old, and the 'Birnam Oak' an ancient 600yr old hollowed out tree, that was here in 1599 when Shakespear possibly visited the site. Scone just outside the city of Perth is the ancient crowning site of Scottish Kings. 42 Kings are said to have been crowned here, including Kenneth Macalpine, Macbeth, Robert the Bruce and Charles 11, all crowned on the nearby moot hill. The Palace you see today dates from 1807 and houses an array of historical artifacts, including embroidery sewn by Mary Queen of Scots. Dunsinane Hill is nearby and we can visit the base of the hill with its information board. This is where Macbeth allegedly had a Fort and was defeated in battle in 1054 by Siward and Malcolm Canmore.

If you have an interest in Macbeth, and would like to walk up this hill, walking boots are required. It is approx 1000ft above sea level and would take approx 2 - 3 hours to do the walk up and down. ASK me if you are interested in doing this.

Tour Cost is £450 excluding entries.
