Walk into Knoydart - Wild Camping Adventure

Go really wild on this epic guided hike and wild camping experience in Scotland’s remote Knoydart Peninsula.

Dates:

  • Thursday 12th - Sunday 15th May 2022
  • Thursday 2nd - Sunday 5th June 2022
  • Thursday 11th - Sunday 14th August 2022
  • Friday 26th - Monday 29th August 2022 (Summer Bank Holiday)

Join a small sociable group as we take on this fantastic journey, a three day walk through the mountains of western Scotland, camping on the way, in an aim to reach the coast of the Knoydart Peninsula.

Starting from Glenfinnan, on the main railway line north-west of Fort William, we’ll spend two nights wild camping in the glens of the Rough Bounds of Knoydart as we make our way north and then west. Our final night will be at the Knoydart bunkhouse or campsite, from where we can head to the Old Forge, the ‘remotest pub in mainland Britain’, for a finishing celebration.

During these three days we’ll be carrying our kit, camping in the glens and crossing mountain passes, looking out for wildlife such as golden eagles, and enjoying the wilderness. Your leader will take care of the navigation, select good camp spots, and help point out the sights. Though ideally you’ll be used to some camping, the route is on paths and the campsites will be low level, so wild camp beginners are welcome.

Please note as you will be walking and carrying your kit for three days in a row you will require a reasonable level of fitness.

There are no facilities at the wild camp spots, especially as your leader will decide where to camp on the day. We’ll be collecting water, finding suitable toilet sites, and learning how to be comfortable without showers! Your leader will bring a stove to heat the hot water required for the evening meals and breakfast.

In a nutshell:
  • Spend three days walking the glens and passes of the western Highlands on your way to Knoydart.
  • Get to know the landscape, look out for wildlife, and enjoy the peace of the wilderness.
  • Learn about wild camping, leave no trace philosophy, and the history of this part of Scotland.
  • Meet new friends and relax in the company of an experienced leader.
  • Finish at the village of Inverie, with a celebration in the pub, and a ferry across the sea to Mallaig the next morning.
