Workshop Times
9:45am - 4:45pm Saturday 21st February
Solar Plate etching is an environmentally friendly way to create an etching plate to make multiple etching prints. We start with a drawing, photograph or other image which we transfer onto a transparency to make a "positive". We then use an etching plate with a special membrane and expose it to Ultraviolet light which transfers the image to the metal plate. We can then clean the plate and ink it and printing it using our etching press.
The solar plate process offers the chance to transfer any image from pen and ink drawings to photos or text or other mark making onto an etching plate. The plate can then be dried and used to make etchings.
This 1 day workshop will be led by Pamela Grace who specialises in this and other intaglio printmaking processes. On the course she will take you step by step though the process of making your solar plate and printing from it. Pamela will be able to help with trouble shooting and questions.
Gracefield print studio is an open access studio so you can come back to print more copies of your image or make more plates after the workshop.
Participants should bring an apron and some images and ideas they would like to work with during the workshop.
