A 3-day Outer Hebrides tour from Inverness with a small group, ferries included. Spend two nights on Lewis, with Luskentyre Beach and ancient standing stones to explore.

A 3-day Outer Hebrides tour from Inverness with a small group, ferries included. Spend two nights on Lewis, with Luskentyre Beach and ancient standing stones to explore.

Leave Inverness behind and cross the Minch into island life. On this three-day Lewis and Harris tour, you’ll stay for two nights around Stornoway, walk on Luskentyre Beach and discover a landscape shaped by ancient communities, crofting traditions and the Atlantic.

Explore the Callanish Standing Stones, Dun Carloway Broch and Lewis’s blackhouse heritage, with coastal views stretching from the Port of Ness to the Butt of Lewis. There’s plenty to enjoy on the mainland, too: Corrieshalloch Gorge on the way out, then Knockan Crag, the Falls of Shin and a stop at Glenmorangie on the return to Inverness. With ferry crossings, short walks and your expert guide’s stories, these three days bring together the islands’ best-known sights and the Highland landscapes on either side of the crossing.

At a glance

  • Duration: 3 days (2 nights on Lewis)
  • Departs: Inverness, 8:15am (back approx. 5–6pm, Day 3)
  • Group size: Max 16 (small scheduled group)
  • Ages: 12+ (younger? ask about a private tour)
  • Walking: Short walks (up to ~1 hour, uneven paths)
  • Ferry: Included (Ullapool ⇄ Stornoway)

Itinerary

Day 1: Inverness to Lewis & Harris: Corrieshalloch Gorge · Ullapool · Ferry · Luskentyre Beach · MacLeod’s Stone

Head into the north-west Highlands for a woodland walk above the waterfalls of Corrieshalloch Gorge, then board the ferry at Ullapool across the Minch to Stornoway, watching for seabirds, dolphins and other wildlife.

On arrival, travel south into Harris for a walk on Luskentyre Beach, then on to MacLeod’s Stone before returning to Stornoway.

The scheduled Ullapool–Stornoway ferry crossing is included; timings are set by the ferry operator.

Day 2: A full day on Lewis: Port of Ness · Butt of Lewis · Blackhouses · Dun Carloway · Callanish

Begin around the Port of Ness, then St Moluag’s Church and the Atlantic cliffs at the Butt of Lewis. Continue past Eoropie Beach and Clach an Trushal to the Whalebone Arch, the restored Norse Mill & Kiln and Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, then Dun Carloway Broch and, to finish, the Callanish Standing Stones.

Entry to Gearrannan Blackhouse Village and Arnol Blackhouse isn't included. Access, weather and operating conditions can change the order of stops.

Day 3: Lewis to Inverness: Ferry · Knockan Crag · Falls of Shin · Glenmorangie · Inverness

Take the ferry back across the Minch, then walk at Knockan Crag in Assynt, where the trail explores the geology that changed our understanding of how mountains form. Continue to the Falls of Shin and Glenmorangie Distillery before returning to Inverness.

Glenmorangie admission or tastings aren't included and depend on availability. Ferry schedules and conditions can change the route.

The itinerary is a guide. Ferry schedules, weather, attraction availability, road conditions and other circumstances may require stops, timings or the running order to change.

Accommodation: two nights on Lewis, not included

Both nights are on the Isle of Lewis, normally in or around Stornoway. Accommodation isn't included in the tour price, so you choose how to arrange it.
