Orkney

Evening Wildlife Walks

Our evening walks take advantage of Orkney's long, summer nights with a leisurely wander to enjoy the soft evening light, the sights and sounds of nature and the peacefulness.

There are 2 different walks to choose from:

Evening Seabird Walk – A short circular walk taking in the RSPB reserve at Marwick Head, Orkney’s biggest seabird colony. The walk starts at the Choin where we can watch waders and ducks in the bay, before following the path up onto the cliffs. Along the way we will see a variety of seabirds including Fulmars, Gannets, Kittiwakes, Guillemots, Razorbills and maybe even a few Puffins. The walk is approx. 2.5 miles and follows a coastal/clifftop path. “We had a wonderful walk with Megan at Marwick head. She pointed out so many birds we would not have spotted – including Puffins – and we had such a great time at the look out point with Fulmars and Gannets swirling around us!”

Evening Wildflower Walk – The coastline at Yesnaby is very dramatic and windswept, even on a calm summer’s evening. We will enjoy a short walk along a coastal/clifftop path looking at the variety of wildflowers including the rare Primula scotica (Scottish Primrose). We will watch the waves crashing in, keeping an eye out for cetaceans, and the seabirds returning to the cliffs after a day at sea. If we’re lucky we might even spot a few Puffins. The walk is approx. 2 miles and is a linear walk (there and back same way). “An evening walk along the dramatic coastline at Yesnaby. It was a wonderful introduction to the delights of the Orkney Islands and I learned about all sorts of flora and fauna that would have passed me by, had Megan not been guiding us.”

Our Evening Wildlife Walks will run from Monday 4th May to Sunday 16th August inclusive.
