Snorkelling above the kelp.

WILD SWIM & SNORKEL

We offer boat supported wild swimming and snorkelling in dynamic coastal locations. Soak up that wild ocean experience or peak into the vibrant world of kelp, shoaling fish and maybe spot a seal.

IMAGE GALLERY HERE

Lochbay is a fabulous loch for wild swimming and snorkelling with lots of sheltered coastal water. It has 3 beautiful islands to explore, Coral Beaches, natural arches and a number of rocky skerries. Designated as a special area of conservation for common seals (however, not so common worldwide) you will often spot them in your peripheral vision. They are curious but quite shy and unlike grey seals are unlikely to play with you. There are options to do recreational swims, point to point distance swims and snorkel, whatever you choose. The shallow reefs around the island, arches and Coral beaches make a peak beneath the waves a real treat. A myriad of colour, gently swaying seaweed, with a diversity of crabs, anemones, sea urchins, starfish, small shoaling fish, and much more to be spotted in the clear waters.

Longer swim trips are most easily organised as bespoke trips by groups. There is so much dramatic coastline to explore, with wonderful wildlife to enjoy en-route. Puffins are a real favourite in a nearby colony, with the surrounding archipelago making a fabulous swim. On the west coast of Skye, you feel the call of the restless ocean, an altogether more dynamic experience! Discover secret white beaches nestled beneath vertical cliffs, explore gullies at Neist Pt beneath the lighthouse and the grandeur of the sea stacks at MacLeod’s Maidens, rocky cracks, crevices and wee caves along the way.

For those with an underwater camera or GoPro your adventure will offer great photographic opportunities.

Shorter swim trips are often scheduled at short notice and may combine with local swimmers and snorkellers. Mutli-day expeditions with affordable accommodation is available to groups.

For those whose in-water passion extends a bit deeper, scuba diving expeditions for dive clubs and instructor groups are available too. More here.
