Alnwick Castle

Alnwick Castle Day Tour

Book a private Alnwick Castle Tour and explore the magical world of Harry Potter’s Hogwarts – Travel the beautiful coastline of Northumbria – Walk in the footsteps of Vikings on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne – Fly a Broomstick like a wizard!

Your Journey

Kings and Queens and epic sieges are all part of the private Alnwick Castle day tour from Edinburgh. Conjure up worlds of wizards and dragons as Alnwick Castle mixes make-believe with real history.

Alnwick Castle Tour

The Scots and English have battled over these lands for centuries. The Castle has starred as a plush home for powerful Dukes and Royalty. Alnwick Castle has the lead role in the Harry Potter Movies, starring as Hogwarts.

Walk in the footsteps of Vikings on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. A unique opportunity to explore Christian and Viking history with your Private Tour Guide on this wonderful Alnwick Castle tour from Edinburgh – Contact us.

(Route can vary depending on departure point)

Our fantastic, fun-filled private Alnwick Castle day tour from Edinburgh follows the North Sea coastal road south.

As a result, stunning views of the ocean, rugged cliffs and castles await.

The short journey takes us south across the border into England. Northumberland is an ancient kingdom, and because of centuries of battles with the Scots, it is the most fortified part of England.

Lindisfarne Castle & The Holy Island

Many castles and ancient fortifications dot the coastline of Northumbria.

You will hear tales of the many battles between Scotland & England on your private Alnwick Castle tour from Edinburgh and 8th century Vikings to 18th century Jacobites.

Tales of Witches, Saints, heroes and villains.

All have travelled this route and, as a result, an entertaining journey south with your private tour guide.

Walk in the footsteps of Vikings.

Our first stop is the beautiful Holy Island of Lindisfarne.

In AD793, Viking longboats slid onto the shores of this small Northumbrian island and changed history forever.

The Holy Island

Lindisfarne is known as the ‘Holy Island’ because of its links to early Christianity and is a truly wonderful little island to visit.

Reaching the beautiful island is only possible when the tide retreats and, as such, one of the more unique roads with Scottish Guided Tours.

Every month, at least one vehicle gets caught out with the tide after attempting to reach the island despite the clear warnings.

Lindisfarne Priory dates back to the 7th century and is close to the heart of the village.

Explore the Island of Lindisfarne

St Aidan’s Winery visitor centre is home to Lindisfarne Mead and a great visit on your private guided tour.

Apparently, a bottle or two of Mead can bring you closer to God!!

Lindisfarne is a very peaceful island.

The magnificent 16th-century Lindisfarne Castle sitting on a cliff above the ocean is a sight to behold and a great walk and photo opportunity.

The village has lovely cafes, award-winning coffee at Pilgrims Coffee and access to wonderful coastal walks.

As a result, Holy Island makes for an ideal first stop on our day tour.

Lindisfarne Castle

Lindisfarne Castle sits on a rocky outcrop like something from a fairy tale. Because of this, a great walk is rewarded with coffee and snacks from one of the lovely wee shops in the village.

Alnwick Castle Day Tour from Edinburgh

Alnwick Castle can only be described as a classic and stunning English Castle. Private day tours to Alnwick Castle are great for all the family.

Home to the Duke of Northumberland, his family for over 700 years, our Alnwick Castle Day Tour from Edinburgh is fantastic.

Attractions, eateries, entertainment are all within the grounds resulting in making this a fun, private tour.

Alnwick Castle is a truly spectacular destination to visit on our private day tour.

The Poison Garden at Alnwick Castle

Magnificent gardens await at Alnwick Castle, as well as the Poison Garden. Everything in the Poison Garden can potentially kill you, and a guide must accompany you.

Alnwick Castle Art Collections

Alnwick Castle itself is breathtaking and full of wonderful art collections.

The art collections at Alnwick castle are described as ” …one of the most important collections..outside the Royal Collection..” Take time to explore the Castle, its rooms and art collections.

Fans of Downton Abbey may recognise some of these rooms! Alnwick Castle has been used in various movies and TV shows.

 Fly a broomstick at Hogwarts

Many movies & TV shows have been filmed at Alnwick but most famously, Harry Potter !! Alnwick Castle doubled as Hogwarts in the movie franchise, and you can tour the film’s locations throughout the Castle.

Harry Potter Tour from Edinburgh

You can even take part in Broom Stick Training.

Attending a Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry class is hilarious and a must for any Potter fans, young and old.

We return to our drop off point around 18.15
