Reasons our landscapes are brilliant no. 492: they make awesome places to try all kinds of brilliant activities.

Okay, yes, it can be said that we do go on about the wonders of the Scottish countryside. But as well as walking, cycling, watersports and wildlife watching, there are endless possibilities when it comes to things to do in the great outdoors.

Where else can you roll down a hillside in a massive plastic ball, charge across rugged terrains in a powerful 4x4, glide over a National Park, swing through the tree tops of ancient forests, sail across a sandy beach, or bungee jump off a bridge? Answers on a postcard, please!

Spectator sports

Why not catch some sporting action whilst in Scotland? There are brilliant opportunities to watch thrilling contests of physical prowess.

Being part of a crowd at a sporting event is pretty special. You cheer on your chosen competitor or team as they battle to take victory; and in return you get to witness nail-biting moments that will have you on the edge of your seat, and marvel at displays of skill. By the time it's over you'll have experienced a rollercoaster rider of emotions.

As well as major sports, Scotland hosts some quite traditional and niche events.
